What does mail or a similar program do that is any better than just accessing your eMail online, or why do you use it?
My reason is the simplicity and the beautiful Apple user interface.

Outlook has tons of button, Mail has the ones I need. It simple and effective. Downloads my email every 2 minutes and displays them with elegance.

good thread!

i often change between using mail app and gmail. i really like using the gmail notifier so really my inbox is just two clicks away. its nice not to have a separate program always running in the dock too although g notifier does take a little bit of RAM.

another thing i like about gmail is that if i send a message to somebody it automatically saves their email address in the contacts. it does a similar thing in mail app but where does it save it too! not the address book?

the threading in gmail is far superior to that in mail, i like to see what I've replied in the conversation too!

the search in gmail is also a lot better, it searches EVERY email not like in mail where it will only search whatever inbox/folder you are currently in.

if only mail had the archive feature of gmail. a simple button to move it too another folder. i've hunted the internet to try and make some kind of plugin with no success

Gmail this week! maybe mail next :D

I like using mail but I wish the "organize by thread" feature would be a lot better. Very often it organizes it but adds emails from months ago that might have a similar subject. Also many emails I get have blank ones and those ALL get grouped together.

very true
