Why would I want to buy an iPhone 4 versus an Andriod 2.2 phone?
Or:
Why would you want to buy an Android2.2 phone versus an iPhone4?

IMHO it's all about what you want from the phone;
Just talking; get a cheap Nokia.
Web Browsing and Apps / smartphone use; the iP4.
If you like tinkering, specs, custom programming; either Android or Jailbreak an iP4.

I got a Droid because I wanted to try something different, and for the Verizon signal. I'm a truck driver, and with AT&T the only time I had 3G was when I was in a major city, and if I was in the middle of nowhere I was lucky to get signal at all. But with Verizon I get 3G even in middle-of-nowhere towns of 264 people. I can count the dead spots in most of the western states on one hand. That's huge for someone always moving like me.

Android OS isn't all bad either. There are a lot of things you can do out-of-the-box that you'd have to jailbreak your iPhone to do, like SBSettings-like toggles, live updating widgets, centralized notification area, and tethering, among other things. I even got chompSMS (think biteSMS) simply by downloading it off the Market. I gotta admit though that the Android Market is way behind the App Store in terms of quality apps and games. But that's why I still have my iPhone and will probably buy the new iPod touch when it comes out.

Isn't the battery life much better on the iphone 4 vs. on most or all of the Android phones?

My opinion is that in general the answer is yes, because of the tight hw/sw integration and the way multitasking is (or isn't, for critics) implemented in iOS.

That is about the best reason to get an Android phone right now. Unless you really travel out on the road you can't really see how much better the Verizon network is. There is no comparison if you get behind the wheel and start crossing the country.

As far as battery life goes. Some Android phones are better then others. So far I have heard mostly positive experiences with the battery life of the Motorola Droid X. My original Motorola Droid is acceptable, but could be better.

Why would you want to buy a Ferrari versus a Ford?
Because it weights less than a Ford Mustang, and it's non-supercharged 6.0L V12 engine produces more power than the supercharged 5.7L V8 engine of the Mustang, so does a non-supercharged 4.4L V8 Ferrari Engine produce more power. Even a 3.0L Alfa Romeo V6 from the early 80s produces as much power as a 4.0L V6 Ford engine (Well, Duratec 30 came on par in the late 90s, where the Alfa Romeo 3.2L V6 already had 25% more power), you never learned that engines have to be light and use sophisticated parts to produce power rather then BIG combustion chambers, BIG superchargers and BIG gasoline consumptions. It seems like they never heard of 98 Octane fuel, or E85. Well, unluckly, the US listened to Hearst rather then Henry Ford.
We ride Fiat Panda on 91 Octane here in Europe, which should be the less sophisticated car around. You see them quite often, even outside of Italy (Where every 5th car is one of those I guess). Europeans rather use 1L of 91 Octane than a gallon of 87. One gallon of 91 Octane fuel costs about $5.65 in Europe - and it's the cheapest gasoline. Most cars here do way more then 12 mpg. Those Pandas do 40-45 (There are guys who arrive at 50-55) mpg, while riding up to 80 mph, transporting up to 5 persons. What's your speed limit again?
The only thing about american V8 engines is the sound, but even that is a matter of taste.

A Ferrari also has much more sophisticated suspensions, brakes, etc. pp. Plus, the interior doesn't look like a Taurus.

Comparing a Ferrari to a Ford is like comparing a Mac Mini to a Zotac ION.

i did want to say something about iphone versus android , but now i cant remember what it was after reading the last thread
my CHevrolet Matiz ( it was once produced by daewoo and belongs to GM now ) 1.0 liter engine produces 64BHP , that might not sound a lot but with 95 octane fuel (you cant get less octane in the UK ) it goes for 59 MPG if i use 98 octane fuel i even get it to 64 MPG , and yes MPG is miles per gallon ..ok imperial gallons which are 4.55 liters opposed to the US gallons which only have 3.75 liters if its a liquid
and do not come with top speeds at least in europe we have something called speed limits ( these signs you find on the road where in a red circle are some numbers ) so any car that goes way faster than that is absolute a waste and pure for showing of

and that brings me back to the iphone , it does not like liquids , but neither does the android , so its pure personal choice and relative easy to decide if you look whats in your wallet (if you want to buy the iphone or android without contract )
i personally cant think of a reason to buy either of those as i use my mobile phone so often that i cant even remember when i had it last time in my hands or even charged , i just dont like to be available all the time , i am a free man with sat nav in the car already and for the rest i have that little thing in my signature which can run proper apps :D here you go back to the cars or subject of the thread :D
