I do have the money, but Id rather keep it for other stuff, just can't justify it on two phones lol.

In terms of theft, or lost scenario, its covered under my house insurance, same as my MBPr (even though its a work supplied one, its for piece of mind as its at home nights & weekends)

Ok lol either way you're going to spend a good amount on the phones whether it's all in one go or spread out.. it's still the same amount.

That's interesting! My home insurance only covers theft from burglary and not theft/loss outside the house! Annoying, right?

$29 screen replacement

Interesting. For us:

£143 Apple Care + £25 screen damage (£79 for other damage).

^ That's quite a bit, considering I got insurance for my iPhone 8+ for £70 for the year - no excess and includes theft/loss!

Yup, very annoying that home insurance would not cover something that occurs outside of the home. o_O

and this £70 insurance includes no deductible?

It's annoying when you hear other people's does...

No excess for any damage, £50 excess for theft/loss.

(I get special privileges, just cos)

In the US, have to get the replacement device from carrier insurance if you choose carrier insurance. The replacement device can be used or 3rd party refurb so possibly no Apple warranty. Coupled with the high deductible, it's just as expensive as buying a new phone after a year if the device is ever lost/stolen.

Dealing with Apple is a lot easier.

I have ATT insurance for $8.99 per mo. I opted for it because it covers more than Apple Care does. Last year they replaced my daughters possessed 6 with a brand new 6S and provided free shipping return label for her 6. All done online. They charged $100 deductable to my ATT bill and delivered it sealed NIB the next day. It was very easy, with zero money out of pocket and no hassles. I'm in the US.

Yea it certainly is. But I’d prefer a small monthly bill over 2k going missing in one chunk lol. I just can’t swallow £76x2 once we’ve added our £12.50 a month carrier plans ontop.

Deductible is higher for theft/loss and that's pretty much the primary reason to go for carrier insurance vs AppleCare+. You got lucky you got a brand new replacement but that's not always the case. I know someone who went through 2-3 replacements before he got a device that worked properly.

Just out of curiosity, which insurance did you use to get £70 for a year including theft/loss? Sounds like a bargain that I want when I get my 8+!

Insurance2Go - I don't know if it's the best, but it's certainly the cheapest I've found and Martin Lewis recommended it, so it can't be that bad, right!?

Are you sure there's no excess with it though? I can only see policies with a £50 excess (which is still reasonable)

I got a few freebies with it ;) but even without, I still would've got it - £50 excess is still cheap compared to other insurers

Yeah, and with the code on MoneySavingExpert it's £10 cheaper! It does seem almost impossibly cheap though! I guess it's difficult to say without the data though, there has to be a sufficient proportion of people who never need to claim

Yeah it's almost too good to be true, but I trust Martin Lewis so!

There is nothing that states that a lost/stolen phone has a higher deductible on my plan. I do have a declining deductible. Online it just asked if I would accept a SG 6S because they didn't have the gold color 6 to replace it with. Of course I accepted. I was surprised that it went so smoothly. Sorry it didn't for your friend.
