Now wait a minute, you can't count the almost $300 of tax as part of the cost of the system! Taxes vary. You have to compare apples to apples, so to speak. The real question is, would you pay $425 to have Apple build it? :D

My bad... I actually meant to not include the tax and shipping, but yeah... I'd probably pay $425 to have :apple: build it (and have it run OSX). However, I get a 6% TimeWarner Employee partner discount... so it would be $3,757. Woo Hoo! (I work for New Line Cinema).

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few little extras too... so it would probably be even closer. A solid Silverstone aluminum case similar to the Mac Pro's would be closer to $300 than $169. The Apple memory and hard drive would be slightly more too so... "bang for buck" the seemingly outdated T.O.T.L. Mac Pro is [practically] the most we can get at the moment.

The minute Harpertown Xeons are available to the public and Apple hasn't upgraded the MP... then the tune will change.
