Remember when the original came out. Amazing fun. This however is crap. To sum it up.30secs of game play,30secs of dragons lair gameplay,2mins of cgi,30secs of handholding gameplay.repeat

Digital download makes this kind of thing nearly impossible most of the time, at least legally. Truth is though, I find that even if I get tired of a game, a few years down the road I want to play it again. Selling games never made sense for me anyway.

Due this reasons I'll never buy pricy digital download and if/ when they upgrade the product from original you don't have the choice to download original but have to get the latest version, which is not always good (basing that on iPhone apps).

I just checked steam.... It's $50 right now.
This title will also be steamplay. So we're hardly getting 'ripped off'.

Are you sure? Take a look at this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007VFHGZ4

It's $8.99 right now on Amazon, and it's redeemable on Steam. And if you bought any game in december last year you get a $5 discount for this game, so it's in fact ...$3.99 for Tomb Raider on Steam! Compare this with $50!!! But hey, you have a Mac! You are "Special", so you have to pay the Apple tax, suckeeeer! :D

How about you look on steam?....

http://store.steampowered.com/app/203160/

The game will be steamplay... There is no 'apple tax'....

If you want to redeem your $3.99 amazon steam code... Then you can download the mac version when it's released on steam in a few days.

If this is not the definitive version and has no real multiplayer then they are charging A LOT for it

Do we know for certain this will be a Steamplay game? Batman Arkham Asylum has been out for the Mac for a while, but its not a Steamplay game as of yet (though Arkham City is).

Tomb Raider is fantastic. I bought this and The Last of Us at the same time. This is what the series needed badly. I couldn't put this game down.

Once I beat it I started The Last of Us but haven't finished it. Tomb Raider spoiled me because of how freaking good it is. No other game in recent memory captured my attention the way it did.

Me too! I did it the other way around. Last of Us then Tomb Raider. Finished TR 2 days ago. It was great.

You're in for a real treat with Last of Us. Amazing game. Not as combat intense as TR, but an amazing experience. Never seen a game as good looking with the standard of voice acting and the music is amazing - and it's bloody TOUGH! I did it on hard. Was gruelling.

Hi all, here are a few answers to all the questions asked so far, I think I covered them all. :)

I'm not sure if they couldn't include multiplayer in the MAS version with some kind of Steam login requirement.

You can't use Steam multiplayer in any version of the game but the Steam version. Just like you can't use GameCenter/iCloud unless you are selling your game in the AppStore. They are mutually exclusive.

When will Mac gaming finally get some love like PC does?

Mac games are always too little too late (except for WoW and D3) and too expensive.
Not to mention they always run better on Windows, even when playing it in Bootcamp.

The game is the same price on the PC and Mac (Steam was on a flash sale recently when the deal was mentioned) but the MAS price is same as the Steam RRP.

The Mac version of Tomb Raider is in the same ballpark to the PC version on most modern cards. The Intel cards are a slower (due to drivers) but they are still nice and smooth on default settings.

FYI we targeted 10.9.1 as the min OS to get the maximum optimisation and experience of the game on the Mac. You couldn't get this level of performance and graphical quality using 10.8.5 or older. It uses all the latest features of Core OpenGL that Mavericks brings to the table.

Why is it like that for some games? Something makes it difficult to implement networking between games running on different operating systems?

We almost always do (XCOM for example), however Tomb Raider multiplayer on Windows uses middleware that wasn't available to the Mac, so the multiplayer code had to be developed from scratch for the Mac version. Sadly, because we aren't able to see the original code, it's impossible to make x-platform multiplayer for TR.

How do you control these games on a mac? Do you get a bluetooth controller, or mouse and keyboard...?

The Mac version supports Keyboard/Mouse and over 100+ gamepads from the 360 to the all versions of the Playstation pads from PS1 to PS4. I don't know of pad that we can't support as long as it has enough buttons :)

Yes, all Feral games (on Steam) are SteamPlay and we have stated as such in the press release and on our social media pages :)

Thanks Edwin!

Can you explain why the MAS and Steam prices are the same, even though the MAS version does not include online multiplayer?

Steam and MAS have different features, MAS for example has all the single player DLC in one bundle that comes out cheaper than the Steam version.

The MAS version also supports a few things like iCloud and Apple's never online DRM that doesn't require a third party client and allows you to play on more than a single Mac at once.

When you get down to it we offer you the choice of stores (with their various exclusive features) and you can make the decision on what store and features you find most important.

Best Tomb Raider since The Last Revelation. Back when good old Core Design had the franchise. Hopefully Crystal Dynamics will treat this franchise well now they've successfully rebooted it.

(More puzzles and tombs in the next one pls!!)

Totally with you. Still have my original discs of the first four (make that five including Chronicles) on PS1 & still pick 'em up & play them on a regular basis. Still to this day no game has even come a little bit close to the atmosphere & the feeling of being completely and utterly isolated in the way that the originals put you in. Core Design were absolute geniuses at level design, constantly messing with your head & making you look at things in very unorthodox ways.

One level in particular where I remember them doing this trickery is on TR2 at the Chinese Monastery. As at this point TR had literally been a game of everything is your enemy and 'shoot anything that moves', it was a humungous shock to the system when you turn the corner and find two sets of AI guys fighting each other, and not with Lara. The first thing you do is pull out your guns & begin to shoot but you soon begin to realise what the feck is going on. The level then however puts you in extremely tough positions throughout, in dark rooms where you have to make a quick decision as to who is friendly or who is an enemy... Of course by shooting just one of these monks resulted in the rest of his friends ganging up on you for the remainder of the level, making things a lot more complicated.

Just by typing this up gives me a massive nostalgia fix.

Keeping with the OP - I liked this reboot, it had to be done as Underworld was just freakin' God-awful. The story in TR13 is absolutely great but it just felt a little too 'samey' and incredibly similar to other 3rd person adventure titles. The supporting characters are a little uninteresting & there AREN'T ENOUGH TOMBS. It's a great starting point though, and a sequel is in the works so I'm massively looking forward to that.

One last note to the guys complaining about price - OS X is straight-up overpriced. Get over it, install Windows via Bootcamp & live happily ever after, you'll get better performance, better games & better prices. Simples.

This is a SteamPlay game so the Mac and PC are the same price and if you buy one you get the other version too... No boot camp needed!

Simples!

I feel lucky I did not buy this game, my mac is 5,1; I downloaded a cracked version to test it. It runs really poor when compared to my steam version.
Nearly unable to play when it loads plenty of graphics.

This edition is poor.

The Mac and PC are pretty much the same speed, the Steam version is the same as the MacAppStore version! If you bootcamp on the same Mac the Steam PC and Steam Mac version are very close in performance on almost all cards.

Intel graphics are a little slower on the mac due to slower drivers but this will speed up as Apple improve the driver performance.

Edwin

Set the mac version on lowest 800x600 resolution with all graphical options turned off, when loading rich graphic, it is not playable.

Steam windows version run on boot camp with windows 7. All graphic is turned on at 1680x1050 resolution. The game runs smooth.

Poor mac ported version.

You are saying all this using a pirated stolen copy which is probably not the real mac game from Feral! If you actually pay for a game and play in on a supported Mac computer they perform very similary.

I can only assume your pirated copy is some WINE based hack or your mac is under the Mac supported specifications in some way.

Got to agree with eddeduck. Running the speedtest I noticed that there was a small decreases in FPS but in the game it seems much of a muchness. I have played about 50% on both OS X and bootcamp on my iMac 2011 27 inch and the game is equally smooth on both at pretty high settings

For the quite a few games that are on steam for PC and are out for mac by feral but aren't on steam for mac, is that ferals decision or the PC publisher and are any of them likely to appear on steamplay in the future.

Arkham asylum
Borderlands
All the total war series
Lord of the rings war in the north

And I think tropico 4.

Some of them I have already I steam some I want to buy but am avoiding in case they appear on steam as I prefer it but if they never will I will buy on App Store

Thanks for the suggestions, we do look at bringing older games to Steam, for example Batman Arkham City GOTY. However we don't have any official plans right now, but it that doesn't mean we won't make Steam versions in the future.

I will try the pay version and report later, i already brought the steam windows version months ago.

Now, I tried the steam mac version, it is really good. I can confirm the pirvated mac version is unplayable.

I can't even play the damn game! I bought it on Steam when they had the flash sale before Christmas for like $12. Now the Mac version comes out and I install it. All I see is lara's hair and the rain, everything is a super blur. The game is totally unplayable. Even with the resolution set to 800x500 and everything graphics wise either off or low. Uninstalled and am redownloading now. VERY disappointed.

Have you checked you actually make the min spec? Your symptoms suggest being under spec and the card having draw issues. I haven't heard of this issue, but I did see something similar on an unsupported card running older unsupported OS in early development.

In simple terms you will need a Nvidia 600 series or AMD 4000 series or better with 10.9.1

Intel HD3000 is not supported.
Intel HD4000 requires i7 CPU
Intel HD5000 is supported

I would suggest if it doesn't work you contact Feral support and send in a "Support Report" and we can have a look at your OS and hardware in detail.
