I’m looking for evidence that I’m not being unreasonable!

I walk the dog on local fields and it’s muddy I dry it off or wash it and place it in the tiled downstairs bathroom till it’s dry enough to carpeted areas etc.

My wife walks the dog on same muddy fields, doesn’t wash it off and let’s it on our leather couch or our 7 year olds bed and it gets caked in mud. Tonight I’ve come home and our bed sheets are covered in mud.

Am I unreasonable in expecting her to wipe the dog down and that a 7 year old should sleep in clean bedding?

I feel like there is more at play here than just this specific scenario. That said, anyone who walks a dog and brings it back home muddy should clean up said dog before letting it romp through the house.
Ha what do you mean more at play? We’ve just had brand new carpet in bedrooms and stairs and livingroom which is why I’m so annoyed.

Sounds like someone doesn’t like waking the dog. Reminds me of the old Garry Schandling bit on how to avoid changing diapers from Johnny Carson

Ha I didn’t actually think about that but I think she’s just so far away with the fairies that she doesn’t think about it. Despite me nagging about it daily/weekly. I don’t mind the dog in our bed when it’s clean. Just at my wits end that she can let a muddy dog in the house with out wiping it down.

Our previous dog as a puppy was digging in the garden during a rainstorm and I mean dripping with mud and she literally just filmed it running around the kitchen and was laughing during it. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

reading between the lines (maybe unmerited) I get the feeling that the muddy dog is only part of the annoyance with your wife.

i'd be annoyed too, but my husband doesn't really like having a dog, so he never walks her. ? it's all on me. but i do wipe her feet every time it's necessary.

so yes, as i said in my first post, i do think that you have a right to be annoyed at this scenario, but i just suspect it's MORE than just this scenario. ??‍♀️

Ha yes I suppose you’d be right in your opinion but I’m sure/I know she has her gripes with me. Think it’s the new carpet thing that’s frustrating me the most! She’s just not very house proud I suppose.. which I’ve always known but suppose a little part of me hoped it would be different

Agreed. The person with the dog at the time it got muddy/dirty is responsible for cleaning it up before letting it free in the house.

My wife would beat me, like Stu's GF beat him.

How do you know the dog didn't step in ****? Now he's walking all over your bed and your kids bed. So she's OK if you climb in bed smelling like a refugee boat after working in the yard all day?

You could try a dog washing machine if she doesn't want to be bothered wiping it down. Anyways, whoever walked the dog should clean it. That's the nice thing about cats. They're self cleaning.

Amen to this.

I'm laughing reading your posts, and yes, I agree completely with you.

Why does this remind so irresistibly me of those compelling, yet addictively awful "AITA" things - ah, threads - the ones that are both hilarious and horrible - one sees reference to?

I don't get why people allow dogs inside at all.

They are animals, not children. Keep them outside
I don't why people allow kids inside at all. My youngest was a self-confessed barbarian. ?

Anyway, the crux of the question is how the OP's wife would react if he didn't take off his muddy boots and tracked mud throughout the house.

Ha I had to google what AITA stood for. But yes I think based on these comments its safe to say I'm not! Although I'm not brave enough to tell her, especially while its Wine night! but thats another topic lol

You sound reasonable based on what you said. We need her input too. ;) You should have included a poll. :)
