Do you think this will result in faster speeds than a direct Ethernet connection to the Powerline adapter?
I think it will result in speeds faster than 960kbps. I'm thinking there's something wrong with the ethernet port or some sort of bottleneck somewhere while using it. But I'm not in front of that iMac so kind of hard to troubleshoot.

The base station will be connected to the adapter and while WiFi speeds are going to be limited by the card in the iMac, I expect it to be somewhat faster. If it's not then that means, aside from overhead, there's a problem somewhere in the networking.

OP reports getting 23 Mbps using a direct Ethernet connection to the Powerline box.

Another thing to try is connect the Mac Studio to the router using WiFi, and then share its connection to the iMac using its Ethernet port.

And to move files between the iMac and Mac Studio via e.g. FTP while both are directly connected via Ethernet, to rule out any problem with the iMac's Ethernet port.

I tried what you suggested and got a speed of 28 Mbps using fast.com

That means Internet Sharing via the Mac Studio is ≈20% faster than plugging the iMac directly into the Powerline box.
Yes but it's not consistent. Sometimes it gets a slower speed. I hope getting the Airport Base Station makes an improvement

I purchased an ethernet cable and ran a direct connection from the router to the iMac and the best speed I could get was 28 Mbps. There has to be a way of getting faster internet speeds on it
