I'm not sure what is happening to me. I can't send sms text nor wifi call unless I have my iPhone on Bluetooth.

I can ask Siri questions and she answers when my phone is on airplane mode.

Any idea?

What carrier?

I hope it's soon.

are you on EE too?

I have found I can text without phone which is pretty cool. Everything seems in place with EE so whats missing. I guess wi-fi calling needs switching on? I actually dont like this because my number shows 'international' when this is enabled.

Which network are you on?

cheers

Yes I am EE too!

Apple's website says only TMob USA supports wifi calling from any device at the moment.

Hi

Maybe we can keep each other updated when this feature (calls on watch without phone) is available on EE.

I think that apple link must be outdated because my iphone 6 in settings- phone - enable wi-fi calling _definitely works_ here in the UK.

Thats why I'm suprised the 'apple watch as a phone' feature doesn't work yet.

cheers

Hi

When you say you can text without phone is this IMessage or sms
I have tryed sms with no luck

actually my phone tricked me into thinking text in watch worked.

Its when the phone is switched on that the text is sent.

I will try again later at home but on a British Telecom hub it wasn't working on wi-fi calling enabled EE.

Will report back.

I am in the AT&T beta of wifi calling... I do not see a switch in the watch app... How do I try this?

My UK carrier EE is settings+ phone + wi-fi calling.

I think T-Mobile it the only USA carrier at present looking to do what we want- using the watch as a phone, with watch off

cheers

Thanks. So for T-Mobile watches, on the phone in the watch app, the phone settings has a wifi calling option?

Tried wifi calling with WatchOS 3. Without a connection to the iPhone the wifi calling does not work. Texting is ok but calls fail. I tried Apple support. I tried going to an Apple Store. It looks like this is something they don't see a lot. They expect the watch to connect to the iPhone in order to make calls. The Apple site on the other hand explicitly says that wifi calls from the watch should work when the iPhone is OFF. Must be a bug. It seems like a serious bug since advertised functionality doesn't work at all.

It does work. Takes a few minutes to activate in settings, but after that, I was able to power down phone and both make and receive calls and texts on watch. Pretty nifty.

I'm on ATT, by the way.

Cool, I didn't even know about this. Can't think of a scenario that I might need to do so, since the iPhone's battery will last longer than the watch. Also, it would be more useful if we can connect to new wifi networks straight from the AW.

Last week I left for work and forgot my phone. I had my watch. I did not miss a message, email, or phone call all day. It was magic.

Yea that's great. But if you never connected your iPhone to wifi at work before, that wouldn't happen. I just wish you can connect to a new network without the iPhone. Then it would be an invaluable feature.
