So, as an update. With a reinstall of the router (with new SSID) and my Mac, the problems still exists. No changes what so ever.... :_(

I am having similar issue with 2018 Macbook pro.

I bought a Macbook pro 2018 on December 1st.
I have been experiencing the exact same issue as mcaswell.

I tested on two routers:
- TP-Link Archer C7 - Qualcomm QCA9880 3x3 MIMO
- eero (1st gen): Qualcomm QCA9882 2x2 MIMO

Tests performed:
All tests were performed two different channels: 36 and 149 on 5GHz AC with 80MHz channel width

- iPerf3
- bought external USB wifi adapter: edimax AC1750 3x3 MIMO
- 2014 Macbook Pro 3x3 MIMO

Results:
- With both routers, speeds (Tx rate and iPerf tests) on the 2018 Macbook Pro dropped at random intervals and picked up at random intervals.
- RSSI was good and Noise was low, so SNR was around 67-70 dB.
- edimax AC1750 speeds were excellent and consistent.
- 2014 Macbook Pro performed excellent and was consistent, the Tx Rates were 975Mbps and iPerf3 tests were 350-380Mbps.

my 2018 mbp is basically unusable at work. It drops connection every couple minutes, but will immediately reconnect as soon as I reselect the network from the wifi menu.

I have no idea how to troubleshoot the issue because other Macs (including my previous one) stay connected without issue, so I.T. just shrugs and blames the laptop. But on my home network, the mbp gives me no issues whatsoever.

Do you use any BT devices? Particularly any Logitech BT mouse? I have WiFi issues with my Macbook Pro 2018 as well, but today I noticed, that the wifi disconnected right after I turned on my Logitech MX Master, it can't be coincidence

Are you connected to a 2.4 ghz network, or 5.0ghz? I notice I get WiFi interference from my mouse when I am on 2.4ghz and trying download a significant amount of data. Switching to a 5.0 ghz bandwidth fixes that.

5Ghz, I think it doesn’t matter, it’s some macbook / bt+wifi module issue, not just interference

WiFi issues...

Hi DCWolfe,

Yes, I've seen and carefully documented numerous WiF-related connectivity issues on three different 2018 MBPs.

I have a strong signal to noise ratio (RSSI=-40dBm, Noise=-90dBm as measured by the 2018 MBPs) using a 5GHz router (actually I also tested a second 5GHz router and found the same 2018 MBP WiFi problems).

When I see the WiFi connectivity problems on the 2018 MBP, my iMac, 2016 MBP, 2015 MBP, iPhones, Apple Watch, HomePod, Linux PCs, Raspberry Pis, WiFi speakers, Alexa, etc., all still have WiFi connectivity -- i.e., the WiFi problems only exist on the 2018 MBPs.

This is not a WiFi hardware problem directly, as I've performed Wireshark packet sniffing (promiscuous mode) of my WiFi LAN from another computer during the WiFi connectivity problems on the 2018 MBPs and found that the 2018 MBPs were still sending and receiving some WiFi packets. At times it looked like the 2018 MBPs lost their DNS service, but when I checked (scutil --dns) the 2018 MBPs still has the correct DNS servers.

But this problem is also more multifaceted than just DNS and WiFi routers, since I've also seen multiple AirDrop failures on the 2018 MBPs too. Now AirDrop uses bluetooth (zeroconf, Bonjour) to establish a P2P (peer-to-peer) private and firewalled WiFi connection, thus should be independent of the WiFi router and wireless LAN (otherwise you wouldn't be able to do AirDrop unless you were attached to a WiFi router -- but you can). I've seen numerous AirDrop failures from my iMac to the 2018 MBPs (located on the same desktop), I've seen numerous AirDrop failures from my iPhone X to the 2018 MBPs (iPhone held in my hand sitting at my desk), and I've seen numerous AirDrop failures to the 2018 MBPs from my 2016 MBP (located in the same room about 8 feet away). I've also done packet sniffing during the AirDrop failures and found packets from the 2018 MBPs, so the WiFi hardware was still working. And again, these AirDrop failures only occur when AirDropping to the 2018 MBPs, I've never seen these issues between any other pairs of my other Apple devices, only when one device is the 2018 MBP have I seen AirDrop failures.

I've experienced multiple rsync and ssh "broken pipe" errors that kill my large data set transfers to and from the 2018 MBPs (rsync, by the way, is what Carbon Copy Cloner uses to perform its cloning magic).

I've had Mac App Store updates fail on the 2018 MBPs while simultaneously my iMac and 2016 MBP were successfully updating from the Mac App Store over the same WiFi LAN connected to the same WiFi router.

I've had third party software updates fail (like MacPorts, GPGTools, and TexLive) while my iMac and 2016 MBP were simultaneously successfully updating over the same WiFi router.

I've seen the macOS (after SSD erasure and clean install of the macOS from the network with no other software nor files transferred to the 2018 MBP) improperly delete a file from an SMB-mounted RAID0 HDD. I've only ever seen this happen from the 2018 MBP, not from any of my other Macs or Linux PCs which I've been using for the last decade. Most likely another WiFi connectivity issue on the 2018 MBP.

In my hands, these WiFi connectivity issues are rare (I worked on the 2018 MBPs for around 18 hours a day and I'd experience a WiFi problem about every 1 to 3 days), random (I couldn't figure out how to consistently reproduce these WiFi issues), and often intermittent (numerous times I've seen the WiFi connection re-established on its own in less than a minute, but I've also waited for 150 minutes and not had it "self-fix" and so had to fix it manually). Therefore, because of the rare, random, and intermittent nature, Apple service has an extremely difficult time finding the problem (the WiFi hardware passes hardware tests and the WiFi disconnections happen so rarely that unless you are using the machine for long periods you won't see them). I also suspect that these WiFi disconnections are much more prevalent than it appears simply because of their intermittent self-fixing nature. For instance, while watching YouTube videos you would probably rarely see a self-fixing WiFi disconnection because of buffering of the videos.

If you wish, the following link contains further information (and other solouki posts on this page 95 lists potentially related issues):

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...bridge-os-error.2128976/page-95#post-26679910

By the way, I very carefully documented all of these WiFi connectivity issues, including pcap packet capture files, and uploaded the documentation to Apple Support, all to no avail.

Good luck to you. I hope you find a solution, but in my hands I couldn't solve this problem -- yes, I can manually fix the disconnections, but I couldn't stop the disconnections from happening.

EDIT: Interestingly, I searched these forums for YouTube video issues on the 2018 MBPs, and did find some posts listing problems watching/listening to YouTube on the 2018 MBPs that could(?) be attributed to intermittent WiFi connectivity issues.

EDIT 2: Forgot to mention, I have these WiFi connection problems even when nothing is attached to the 2018 MBPs, i.e., no USB devices plugged into the T3 ports.

Same issues here with MBP 2018 15", no USB hubs or other accessories attached. It happens randomly with more than one wifi router, both home and at work, both places use SMB and not home equipment (Peplink Balance One at home and Fortinet at work).

It happens more with WPA2 Enterprise security than with WPA2 Personal.

I thought it was something wrong with my WPA2 Enterprise setup, but then some days it just works and other days it doesn't connect. No errors in RADIUS or router's logs, so it's strictly MBP-related.

Disabling and re-enabling WiFi doesn't always do the trick here.

Hope for a fix from Apple.

Yes, I have issues with wifi on my 2018 MBP also. I had a 2016 MBP that had stable wifi prior to this machine. I noticed it immediately when I had them side by side at a hotel, the 2018 would have problems connecting where the 2016 had no similar issues. I'm very close to a Time Machine wifi router at home. I also have a new 2018 MacBook Air that works just fine.

In my case it usually manifests itself as terrible packet loss and high pings right after the initial connection. Picking the 2.4ghz wifi will usually help some, but sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting will make it more stable. I may then go all day without any problems, or I might randomly be left with a gray wifi symbol.

What's more curious is that I had a 2015 MBP that used to behave exactly like this 2018 MBP. I was happy to be rid of those wifi issues when work issued a newer laptop, and am sorry to see them back again on the 2018. It's almost as if Apple has different wifi chip vendors and some of us are unlucky to get certain ones.

I'm experiencing this same issue. My old Early 2009 MacBook Pro works flawlessly with my wireless (as do all other devices), however my new 15 inch 2018 Macbook Pro drops pings to the router. These can sit side by side and be on the same channel and one drops pings and gets low throughput while the other doesn't.

The router is a Buffalo WHR-300HP2 running OpenWrt 18.06.1, r7258-5eb055306f which uses hostapd
2018-04-09-fa617ee6-5

According to the bootlog, it uses Atheros AG71xx chipset. The system seems to work ok at work with Ubiquiti APs, but it sometimes get flaky there too and requires a reset. Resetting at home makes no difference.

Have you tried WiFriedX? This disables the AirDrop / Apple Watch discovery service and has just about completely resolved the wifi issues for me.

I tried WiFriedX just now- no luck. Still dropping pings to the wifi router from about 10 feet away only on the 2018 MacBook Pro. I may need to change routers or get a wifi dongle.

My 2018 will do this too. Wifi just become unresponsive. Its usually when I open the lid, turning it off and back on fixes it. Happens once every other week or so, so not as often as some people here.

ALL my Apple devices seem to preferring 2.4ghz lately. I decide to pull my Airport Extreme apart and blow it out the dust. While I don't think that was a problem at all the power cycle seems to have my devices on 5ghz again.

It was strange, MBP and iMac went to 5ghz, then both switch to 2.4ghz and then after 2-4 minutes went back to 5ghz and seem to be staying there.

I'm not sure what the issue was since there was a low noise floor on channel 100 from all of my tests, but I moved the router to channel 149 and the problem went away.

I had the same issue and this one has saved me, thank you!!

Mine has been great knock on wood. Great wifi range also. Around my place I always have full bars. Wish my iPhone had wifi this good

Had same problem, turned out to be a badly shielded usb hub interfering with 2.4GHz. Changed to 5GHz and the problem was solved. 2018 15" MBP i9 2.9/32GB/512GB/560X

This totally fixed my issue! Thank God for Google!! What a random silly issue, gosh.

All - I am having the same issue with a slightly different twist. MBP 15" Mid 2014. Mojave 10.14.6. Using Linksys Velop mesh. Several times/day, WiFi will not connect to Velop managed WiFi network. Easiest way to correct for me is to connect to an open Xfinity Wifi at my location, then switch right back to Velop wifi. It is as if the connection to a non-Velop wifi somehow "resets" something that has caused it to block the connection. Not sure if this helps spur any thoughts on potential solution, and I do not know enough to understand what this might impact, but if it helps solve the issue, glad to pitch in.

I’ve read of others having issues with the Velop and MBPro. Have you reported the issue to Apple?

TO add to this.

I have a 5 node Linksys Velop setup (bridge mode) along with a Thompson Router (AC speeds).

My 2013 iMac connects to the velop at 867mbps speeds.(AC 5Ghz)

My 2017 Macbook Pro will only connect at 144mbps speeds (AC 5Ghz), even if I place it 1cm from any of the nodes.

If I connect the Macbook to the Thompson Router I get 867 mbps AC 5Ghz speeds, even from 20-30 ft away.

I have tried all of the suggested fixes that I have read and just can't get this Macbook to connect to the velop at higher speeds.
