I never had problems until iOS 6. I got it mostly working after deselecting WiFi Sync in iTunes, applying, re-enabling sync, and applying, then restarting both my iPhone/iPad and my Mac.

Now my iPhone and iPad usually show up when connected over WiFi, but sometimes one or the other does not until I restart the device.

Here's what I sent:

So on my iOS 5 iPhone 4S, wifi sync was brilliant. EVERY time I was home, on wifi and plugged my iPhone or iPad in to charge, the sync animation in the status bar popped up within 2-3 seconds and a sync would begin.

Now, on iOS 6 its VERY hit and miss. As a matter of fact I think it's only worked correctly maybe twice. If I manually initiate a wifi sync from the Mac, it'll usually work. If I manually initiate a sync from the iPhone or iPad it usually does not work.

I never had problems until iOS 6. Now in iOS 6, it only works after deselecting WiFi Sync in iTunes, applying, re-enabling sync, and applying, then restarting both my iPhone/iPad and my Mac. I never had to do this in iOS 5.

For the record, I'm using the VERY LATEST software for Mac, iTunes, iPhone and iPad.

Please help me.

Update for fix

I have been having the same prob. just got an update that seems to have fixed the issue. The wifi update works fine now.

So I installed 6.0.1 and the wifi sync worked correctly the first time I plugged the phone in to charge. But now, it has stopped working again... Ugh. :(

Count me in on the WiFi not working. Worked fine on my iPhone 4. Just upgraded to the 5 and it's not finding my phone. It's also not showing my phone number in the summary section of the phone on itunes...

Tried stopping and restarting the AMDS and that didn't help either...

This is one of those features that works great in theory, but for some weird reason Apple completely failed to implement it with any degree of reliability.

WFS sucked on iOS5 and I can imagine it sucks even more now on iOS6. But I wouldn't know that seeing as I've now completely disabled WFS for all 3 of my devices. Tired of the cryptic itunes errors and frequent (albeit short) freezes while the damn thing was stupidly looking for my devices on the network.

Wifi syncs most of the time works for me, but like others said sometimes it locks up and itunes have to be restarded. I tend to find that the closer the idevice is to the router, the faster it syncs.

Well my WiFi sync had pretty well stabilized prior to iTunes 11... now it's driving me nuts. It sees my iPhone as being in DFU mode (it's not), and I won't for the life of it sync my iPad.

From Apple Support Forum

I saw a suggestion that seemed to work for a lot of people on the Apple support boards, and so far is working for me too:

On your iDevice:
Go to settings>Wi-Fi
Press the blue button next to your network
Change HTTP Proxy to Auto

All I can guess is this somehow forces your iPhone to examine the network connection more and overcome some bug. Anyhow, if you're having inconsistent wifi syncing with your iDevice, see if this helps.

NEVER MIND my suggestion to "Change HTTP Proxy to Auto."

It seemed like this was helping my wifi syncing for awhile, though still not perfect... That is, untill today... Now my wifi sync won't work no matter what I do (and I've tried about 10 different suggestions I've read). We'll see if there's anything (undocumented) in iOS 6.1 that helps my iPhone 4s sync as consistently as it did back in iOS 5.

My iphone 5 has gotten worse this past week. It used to be that I would lose wifi signal if I locked/unlocked my phone. Now I lose wifi signal out of nowhere, while I'm in the middle of surfing safari or texting or whatever. To make it worse, when I would go to wifi in the settings menu, it would be toggled to the off switch, and it would be greyed out, so I couldn't do anything. I would have to reset network settings in order to get it back again. I'm in the process of upgrading to 6.1 as we speak. If there is no improvement this thing is going back to the store friday. :(
