People wouldn't be so critical if you hadn't chosen a silly name like Wi-FiGate. This naming of threads with gate at the end of the word is getting out of hand.
It would help if folks knew, and considered the origins of "gate" as it's being used... This just doesn't fit.

I've noticed this as well. I think its SpeedNet with certain routers. At school my WIFI speeds are fine. Then at home I'm barely getting 1Mbps down. However, I use Xtreme Speedtest and my speeds are normal. Go figure. If you notice, the connection itself is not slow its just displaying the wrong speeds. SpeedTest definitely has its bugs.

I have the latest Apple Airport base station. I just updated to the latest firmware that was released.

There are times the phones are real slow downloading apps or playing youtube videos (stalling).

I have tested using speedtest, FCC, and various web based test sites. My ipad2 always has speeds above 10 megs. The iphones usually stay about 1-3 megs.

I tried testing with just one device connected but still was only able to get about 2 megs.

I have Apple TV and it downloads really fast. I have my LCD TV that has youtube and Netflix and it also works great. My son has his Android phone and he gets 10+ megs. My daughter uses her ipod touch and also gets real fast speed...It's just the iphones that seem to have the slow connection.

I had the same issue... but it just went away. The new update probably had something to do with it :)

Hi Macky, the next logical thing to do is try it on someone elses wi-fi network. Is the performance still poor? If it is then it could be the phones but all 3 of them sounds unlikely.

on your wifi network i would try shutting all the connected wifi devices down and connect 1 iphone only and see how it does. It could be one other device is screwing up the iphones connection. Then add 1 device at a time and test the iphone. You may find the culprit that way.

You could also try assigning a static IP address on the router for the iphone see if that makes any diffirence.

If its still the same with only 1 iphone connected and nothing else i would guess its a setting on your router that only affects iphone wifi.

Try googling your make/model of router & iphone 4s to see if anyone else is having the same issues.

Thanks to all that actually read and tried to help. I did upgrade and I actually think it got slower. I tried to mess with all the settings...channels and B/G mixed, etc. I did notice that when i messed with the multicast setting it seem to work for 1 day. Not really sure what multicast really does?

I'm going to try stopping all my WiFi connections (Currently have 8 devices on WiFi) and try the suggestion of 1 iphone on WiFi.

In other words, you have no idea what you're doing, so you start changing random settings you should not be messing with? Smart.

What are the "other devices" using WiFi? Is your router 'dual radio'?

The main difference between your iPad and iPhone (and computers) is the limitation to using the 2.4GHz spectrum. This spectrum is very crowded and easily interfered with by other devices like microwaves and cordless phones. Additionally, even though there are 11 channels, most overlap with the neighboring two channels, at minimum.

Set your 2.4GHz channel to either 1, 11, or 6 in that order. If you can set it for G or higher, do so. B devices will slow all the other devices down. B sucks.

Test. Report back.

Nope no gate my wifi is pretty fast faster than he wife's 4

Same here. My 4S can saturate my ISP without breaking a sweat, typically 20 to 21Mbps down 3 to 3.5Mpbs on cable internet rated at 15/3. My macbook air gets essentially the same numbers, no difference beyond the test-to-test differences.

My 4 would achieve no more than ~70% of these numbers.
