Yeah, this man complained because he said his Wii Fit told his daughter that she was fat  Well sometimes reality bites . . . if you don't like what you see when you look in the mirror don't look OR buy a new one like the ones they have at the Fun House :D

Funny you should say that. The mirror I have by the front door is the most "flattering" mirror in the house and my personal favorite.

At least all my kids came up OK. Looks like me and the Mrs will be using Wii Fit more than the kids.

That was probably worth it! I went with the free budget shipping.

After reading your post I thought if Amazon does stupid things like that they just might run short of their allotment. Imagine sending others 2 instead of 1 Wii Fit . . . . seems to me that would make the numbers short. Now, I'm questioning whether they'll have enough to go around. SO, I picked up one at Circuit City this morning as a back up . . . just in case Amazon runs out because of sending too many out

Well they caught up to me on this one.

I got my copy of Wii Fit today via UPS (Next Day Priority AM), however when I went to check the other UPS tracking number I see this.

05/21/2008 3:15 P.M. THE SHIPPER HAS REQUESTED A DELIVERY INTERCEPT FOR THIS PACKAGE / RETURN TO SENDER PENDING

Amazon did treat this well, they made a mistake sending it ground and then quickly followed up and re sent it next day just as i asked. To top it off they refunded me my shipping, and gave me $15 in Amazon credit.

I've been with them since the beginning, and I spend on average around 10-12k per year at Amazon, but I'm sure that has nothing to do with it

can you use it on carpet? or do you have to place the wii fit on a hard surface?

Now that's irony.

I jumped on this thread to ask that exact question.

My wife really, really wants this, but I'm afraid it's not going to work very well.

So how about it?

It works fine on carpet, just be sure nothing or as little as possible is touching the bottom of the board. It comes with spacers to make it sit higher specifically for use on high carpets.

I saw them on breakfast television and the daughter was indeed in great shape. She was very sporty, and her lean muscle made her BMI high on wii fit, telling her she was fat. Despite being very slim, it still made her feel terrible and doubt herself.

BMI is a useless indicator of fitness, without taking into account lean muscle and measuring body fat. It would tell most athletes that they are obese!

Yes remember if you have a thick pile carpet or you seat the wii board on top of a rug, it can confuse the wii board because it wont ascertain your real weight.

I noticed this when taking it to a friends house. It told him his BMI was 21 and he was 71 kilograms. I knew it was wrong straight away.

We pulled the rug out from under the wii board and started again and it recognized his weight had dramatically changed automatically.

His actual weight was 86 kiograms and his BMI rocketed into the overweight catagory.

So yeah as ED says, make sure there is plenty of air underneath the wii board or it will just give you the wrong reading.

Same here. I'm very fit nowadays as I work out in the gym every day for a couple of hours, and then add that to an hour of swimming or cycling every day also - my body is toned but slim.

Whilst my Wii still gave me an 'ideal' rating for BMI it was a lot higher than it should really be.

It really should ask you when you set the game up what kind of body do you have or such in order to compensate for this.

Just came back from Flea Bay. There are tons of Wii Fit boards for sale there. And, needless to say, all are sold out locally and pickings are slim online as well. Well, we know who bought up the lot :D

So even though the Wii Board won't remain level on carpet, as long as the bottom of the board itself isn't touching then you're fine?

It seems that the board needs to remain perfectly level to have accurate readings, and that's impossible on carpet.

Yes, they did remedy the situation for you and sent it next day as you requested. Mine is actually shipping for delivery next week (5/28) so I will be returning the Wii Fit I bought at Circuit City as a back up . . . . or maybe I'll keep it until I'm sure that the one I ordered from Amazon is okay since it looks like a replacement will be non existent if I find a problem with the Wii Fit ; )

Wii Fit says you're overweight and that's bad?

Is it just me or is it time for people to relax?

A recent story from Mail Online details obesity experts' issues with Nintendo's latest blockbuster, Wii Fit. According to the story, a ten-year-old girl was playing the game and after telling it how old she was and what her height is, it measured her weight and told her that she's overweight.

In a fit of rage, obesity experts condemned the title claiming it could harm a child's self-image and called on Nintendo to include a warning in the game that said it's not suitable for children.

"She is solidly built but not fat," the girl's father told reporters. "She was devastated to be called fat and we had to work hard to convince her she isn't."

Now, I understand that a child's self-image is an extremely important issue in today's world and there are a number of cases where weight can have a lasting impact on the child's life. But let's also not forget that the instruction manual on Wii Fit does say that BMI calculations may not be accurate for individuals aged 2 to 20 and even those that are more muscular will probably not see the real measurement of how over- or under-weight they are.

But for the rest of us, I can't help but say that while the truth may be difficult, part of the value of Wii Fit rests in its attempt to be honest with the gamer and help that person achieve a more healthy lifestyle.

Obesity is, without a doubt, one of the most dangerous problems in the world. And while my heart goes out to those who simply cannot control their weight, I don't think a video game should be condemned for doing what it's supposed to do: evaluate your physical health and try to improve it.

Sadly, I think the world is becoming a bit too sensitive. Should a game tell a ten-year-old that she's fat? No. And surely there are other ways to tell those that are overweight that they don't fit within the more moderate BMI range. But in the end, the truth is the truth and Wii Fit is certainly not telling the world how much you weigh and how under- or overweight you are.

How is the Wii Fit calculator any different than a calculation that's done at the gym by your local trainer? I would argue that it's even worse: if someone is overweight and has issues with being told that, can you imagine the issues they must have when another person knows it? At least on Wii Fit it can be password-protected and kept between the person and the game, right?

This is not to say that obesity issues don't matter -- they absolutely do and privacy should be a major concern -- but I just don't see why we should indict Wii Fit because it informs people that they are not as healthy as they could be. Isn't that a good thing?

I think we've become too sensitive. When a video game tells me that I'm overweight, I simply don't see the problem in that if it's a game that's designed to make me healthier. And let's also not forget that it's not judging those that are overweight and is actually doing what it can to help us.

Wii Fit is not to blame and should not be blamed for telling someone that it's overweight. And if you ask me, I think we should all lighten up a bit.

Can any of our UK users comment a month later on how often they are still using this? I'm worried that I'd get into it upon first getting the game, but then lose interest. Does it have staying power?

Yeah I'm still playing, but certainly not as much now that i unlocked everything. I pretty much do 30 minutes of yoga and muscle exercises every other day on it, as it just can't replace the gym/pool/sauna/steam room/walking on the beach/mountain climbing/cycling/swimming in the sea which is my weekly diet of exercise.

I have ordered wii ski (family ski in the uk) in order to utilize the board more also though.

Got my We Ski game and I'm enjoying it a lot. Works great with the balance board :) Mii integration is sweet and multiplayer is a lot of fun too.

It's not the most complex of games, or one with the highest production values, but for €25 budget pricing, it certainly extends the life of your balance board outside it's Wii Fit confines.

Definetly worth getting if you've already invested $80/90 on a balance board. :)

I've been looking for Wii Fit for the last couple of weeks with no luck, but tonight I was at a local movie/game rental shop and they actually had one!

I think it's great. I bought it primarily for my wife, but I will definitely use it as well. It registered my BMI as "overweight", but my Age was my actual age, so I must be doing something right!

I did everything except the balance games, and my favorite so far is the step aerobics! I'm not really sure why, but I just enjoy stepping to the beat. ;)

It will never replace a gym membership, but if you don't have one available or simply can't afford one then I think this is a step in the right direction.

Just got one, mainly for the board. So far I have tried 1 yoga pose, which was a little fun, and no aerobics or strength training. I glanced at them, but since I work out all the time these just don't seem like anything. Mainly I got it because of future games that will come out, and as an easy way to keep track of my weight.

What I'm enjoying a lot are the mini games. Tightrope walking was bad, but some of the others are really fun. I like the one with the balls that you make fall down holes and the one where you slalom in particular. I can see the potential for this to be a really, really fun tool. Right now it's decent, but the potential has me excited.

How does Wii Ski or whatever it's called use the board? Do you still use the remote / nunchuck with it when you have the board?

Novelty has worn off with the kids but the wife and I are still using it after 3 weeks. The yoga is great for improving your flexibility and I have noticed that in both of us recently. ;) (say no more).

One thing we have managed to keep going is the challenge aspect. We keep trying to best each others scores on various exercises and games. Hopefully the momentum won't fade.

Board size

I know this won't affect many people, but the more I play the more the board just seems too small to me. I want to have my feet spread out further. Ah well, it's still fun :)

Heh. I'm glad someone caught my little pun. ;)

So I can't do the jogging because jogging in place makes my left ankle feel like it's on fire. :(

The rythym boxing is really lame. Whenever I want to do some boxing I just put in Wii Sports.

But does anyone else think the rythym boxing instructor sounds like Randy Quaid?

"All right, let's do it together."

I really love the balance games. Also the strength exercises are a little on the difficult size. And can't really say much about the yoga since I'm a yoga n00b. But all in all I love it! :D

And WeSki is a fun game for $30 too!
