I kinda hope that Today's Accomplishments will be the first step in implementing gaming awards similar to achievements for the 360.

What can I say? I love Achievements. Always rewarding (at least for me) when that familiar sound effect goes off after sniping my 50th enemy or something of that sort.

Yea, damn thing took at least 30 minutes here. I cut off the internet to every other machine in the house too.

As for accomplishments, I hope they don't go after the 360 method. I can't stand the, to quote Sikkinnix as he put it perfectly "big **** contest" and I just don't like the feeling of artificial and purely aesthetic reward.

I think he means he owns 1 wii, with wiikey, that he updated and it still works, and one actual brick.

i.e: sarcasm

Thank god someone got it

Jeez Louise, I think the folks in this section all need a light hearted humor transplant operation, because they seem to have lost it lately. :p

So just for those who don't understand 'my Wii still works' ;)

some people have reported that their usb keyboards now seem to work now in message mode and the settings etc. (NOT in the internet channel)

can't confirm it yet but gonna try it in the evening

Going at it now with my USB Apple keyboard...

Yup! Works! Just plug in the keyboard before it's turned on and job's a goodun. MRU check your Wii messages :)

late edit: no mouse support. ... :D

Ok so yes achievements do act as a big **** contest but here is my thing... many games have many many extra things to finish that aren't required to "beat" the game. My issue is that if I get through the game and the end story occurs, I have no reason to turn right back around and go "find" or "complete" any of the other tasks b/c they obviously don't change the outcome. Granted they might be fun but I have ten other games I haven't played yet that will be just as fun. Therefore the achievements get me to put the game back in and get me to see the full game.

I am light hearted/very adept at sarcasm...but the phrase "So what the heck I gave it a try and guess what I'm now the proud owner of a..." led me to believe that it had bricked it. The now threw me off...basic linguistic logic. We're talking about the update and you say you now own a brick = the update bricked your system. People on these forums would own two different consoles too...

I do appreciate the joke now that its clear. You have to understand though some were justifiably concerned about what happened as I don't want to own a 250 dollar paper weight because Nintendo didn't think through someone living in an asian country and wanting the US VC channel (don't want to play old NES games in Japanese) but needing to buy Japanese games due to import costs. Just wanted to clarify...thought that's what you meant, but the wording choice was bad for sarcasm (sorry just finished a course in Aristotelian Logic and took my Mensa quiz and am loaded up on linguistic logical forms :) )

They should really have a way to legally mod your systems or should provide a firmware for multi-region...particularly within NTSC regions...I'm not playing illegal copies, but I do have friends with kids who like to scratch cd's so I need backups (will never forget coming in the living room and seeing a toddler rubbing my Oblivion disc back and forth on the floor data side down) and have to buy Japanese games for my US Wii...both legit uses for a mod chip IMHO.

Not to burst your bubble but you do realize that as a company Sony and Apple have a much bigger relationship than Apple and Nintendo.

My microwave oven has a minimalistic interface, I bet whirlpool and apple must have talked!! Yes its about that absurd.

It's nothing new. We've seen it all over Nintendo's products. I wouldn't say they're working with Apple, maybe courting them.

Anyhow, I was responding to a post above, I just forgot to quote it.

They aren't even courting them. They licensed QT for the Wii.. thats it.. finished.. it ends there.

In the words of Bart Simpson, "Don't have a cow man." It's pretty pointless to get worked up over a silly rumor like that one.

What are you talking about though? There's absolutely no evidence of anything between Apple and Nintendo other than Nintendo licensing QuickTime (a very, very common thing).

cool, but why no internet keyboard function?!?!?!?!? that would be VERY convenient....

Wiikey looks interesting. Did you have to solder it on?

Bobdude161,

I'm pretty sure an internet channel update will be available soon that offers keyboard support. The firmware update was only for the system and its components, where as browser is an optional application.

There was another update released today, surprisingly no one has commented on it yet... Hasn't done any new features as it seems, i think the description said it was about prventing the Wii from locking up while using the Internet Channel, something about LAN, and possibly more compatibility issue :)

Yeah, I was watching a movie last night (Return of The Living Dead 5) when my Wii suddenly started pulsating blue. The update is just to fix a few bugs. I started downloading it before going to bed....but fell asleep. I totally forgot about this. I hope the Wii automatically shuts itself off after a while (or it'll still be on when I get home tonight).
