LOVING! Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze - it is bloody difficult and I love that about it - such a rarity to have a difficult game that isn't cheap shots difficult, but a rewarding difficult that has you learning as you go and having you feel like a platforming master by the end.

I've played now more than 21 hours and am now going through and finding the KONG pieces - pretty remarkable game so far

Jovian9, not sure about your kid's age and if you play together (I found NSMBU quite hard if you don't play with a platformer-seasoned pro - which I clearly didn't) so DK may be a bit too hard for them - I believe nothing beats Mario3d in that regard. But I felt like you: needed a Mario break so that I can enjoy 3d even more later on.

Do you have / know about WindWaker? I was rather sceptical at first but boy is it a feast I'm having there! Can easily imagine that this would have been my childhoods favorite.

Yeah, I'm also considering WindWaker. My kids are young (almost 6) so they aren't very skilled at gaming. They basically take turns dieing on NSMBU and occasionally make it past one part. After they try for awhile I just move them on and give them new areas to explore. It would probably end up the same with DK. For that reason we will most likely end up with 3D so we can all play at once.

Donkey Kong is great, but by god it can be so so tough, couldn't even imagine a 6 year old playing it.

Wind Waker is an amazing game but despite its visuals it's not really a kid friendly game as there is a lot of repetition in regards to travelling to locations and some of the dungeons and puzzles may be too taxing for young ones.

Personally I'd stick to Skylanders / Disney Infinity and Mario World 3D for best co-operative gaming that is more family friendly and less frustrating for younger gamers.

Yes, I agree. Not going to lie: I'm dying really often in DK, but the good thing is that it's just hard - never unfair. Big difference. I lost more lifes for the very first boss than all of the nsmbu ones combined including Bowser. Guess it speaks for itself that I still enjoy it very much.

Windwaker can't tell, I needed some sort of (easily) 'story driven' game for a change so that pushed it ahead of 3d, which is the perfect local multiplayer game available imho.

Wind Waker is regarded as one of the easiest Zelda games, so it'll probably be good for children around 8 years old, although they probably need a bit of help with the story and where to go.

Well if it's too difficult for them that just means I'll probably enjoy it more. They'll still have fun though. As long as it's a game they can play a little then it will be worth it.

We are going to get them Disney Inifinity as one of their birthday presents. They always look at those in the stores so we decided after getting the Wii U that we would do that. So they'll have that game soon enough.

Also, has anyone here played Injustice: Gods Among Us on the Wii U? It was a game I was going to pick up for the 360 but now that I have a Wii U I'd rather get it for this platform.

I liked Injustice a lot - just stopped playing it due lack of time. Only advantage for 360 is that you can't buy Zatanna and MartianManhunter as DLC on the wii u. If you like 2d fighters chances are good you will like this as well. If you are also into superheros you'll love it.

Cool. Yeah it looks pretty good. I'm not too worried about the DLC. I remember being at the arcade (in the town where I grew up) and them wheeling in the first Mortal Kombat and setting it up. Think I was 3rd in line to play it and loved it. So I'm sure I'll enjoy the game play of Injustice.

Injustice is like £10 on Wii U from Amazon here. For that price it's a bargain. It's a very good game.

I was going to get the game anyway... this just makes it infinitely more awesome.

Every wii u owner on the planet is getting this game :p

I won't get special edition, I don't need to spend £15 more for a plastic blue shell...

Awesome!!!

This one had me cracking up:

YouTube: video

Luigi was my main from the start but I didn't even see those facial animations till it blew up on Neogaf. This is Nintendo in a nutshell. So much crazy attention to detail!

Normally it is hard to get excited about a video game console OS update, but the new Wii U update, with the quickstart menu? Holy cow, I can be up and running in Mario Kart, or a Virtual Console game, in about 20 seconds.

Back to Mario Kart, with Yoshi's Island for breaks :D

Yoshi's my main racer, and I enjoy his? her? deranged, euphoric cheerfulness at everything...the banana's piss me off, how can they be smiling when they cause so much misery? And I've noticed the shells appear to have four holes for the limbs, and a hole for the neck & head. Yes, the attention to detail is crazy; the super slo-mo on the replays is almost as much fun as playing the game itself.

yeah, its good!

one of my favorite features is being able to select between tilt control and joystick steering. You can change at anytime
