F-Zero® X (Nintendo® 64, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Choose from 30 different hover-car racers, including updated versions of the Blue Falcon and other vehicles from the original F-Zero, and get ready to play one of the fastest racers ever. You'll speed to the finish line on tracks that twist and turn through the air, doing your best to avoid the other 29 cars on the track. If you're in a competitive mood, try to win a Grand Prix Cup, get the fastest lap time in a Time Trial or destroy the competition in a Death Race. You can also challenge three friends in the Versus mode. With five separate play modes, hidden vehicles and courses, and an excellent soundtrack, F-Zero X still represents one of the best racing titles to date.

Street Fighter® II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting (Super NES®, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen –Violence, 800 Wii Points): Street Fighter II defined gaming in the 1990s by revolutionizing the fighting-game genre. Regarded as one of the greatest games of all time, Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting was the third and final release in the original series. Featuring the eight original World Warriors (including Ryu, Chun Li and Guile) along with playable boss characters (Balrog, Sagat and M. Bison), this classic title offered enhanced playing speed and improved character balancing.

China Warrior (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older –Violence, 600 Wii Points): China Warrior is a side-scrolling action game that was released around the same time as the TurboGrafx16 in Japan. It's up to the kung fu master Wang to defeat the Dark Emperor, who stands atop the kung fu world in China. Punch, kick and jump-kick enemies along the path that lies between you and the three bosses of each stage. Skillfully fight your way through all four stages, and be sure not to miss recovery items while dodging enemy attacks. China Warrior boasts character size and detail that rivaled all other games at the time of its release. Exciting one-on-one fights against the game's realistic bosses will make you feel like you're in the middle of a kung fu movie.

Possible future purchases in SFII and F-Zero-X but not overly compelling this week for me.
 
Some obscure song popped onto my iPod earlier and reminded me of Chuck Rock 2's octopuss boss level. I really hope we somehow see that game reappear on the VC, shame it won't be the Amiga version though.

Still can't see the point of all this Pre-SF3 hype that's going on for all downloadable services. 3 was perfect in balance, wide character selection, music and the whole -ism strategy. Obviously it only applies to fighters with more or less featureless levels and redundant story.
 
I love Wii Virtual Console, but I have one complaint. When are they gonna put in freakin Goldeneye?!? Sure, I do have it for my N64 which is in my closet (perfectly usable) But i wanna play it on my Wii!!! Anyone know?

Also, lets talk about Wii Ware. When are more apps going to be available? Im totally behind on all my Wii news and stuff. Aernt they going to release an app that will let you type to your Wii through your DS? Someone please fill me in! Anything will be greatly appreciated.

Golden Eye is in a state of licensing ambiguity. Rare was the studio that made GoldenEye and of course they are now owned my Microsoft. So the only way I see GoldenEye coming to the Virtual console is if it is also released on X-Box Live.
 
We got some Wolf game and some Kirby golf game. Unimpressive week really. With the sheer volume of NES games we should be getting at least 1 of them a week.

Eh, it was okay. :) It didn't really hold my attention very long. Decent multiplayer game to whip out at parties though.

I don't see why Nintendo doesn't release more than 3 games every week. If they did it like iTunes and try to get a good chunk of their own video game library up and any other willing publishers, I think sales of VC games would probably be higher. My 2 cents.
 
I think they need to revamp the shop. Now it's getting bigger navigating is becoming a pain. In the EU we're up to 8-9 pages now on the master list.

A recommendation feature, search, games by character/universe, a standard list of all games on a single page. plz.
 
WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

This week the Wii Shop Channel is all about a healthy diet. Grab lots of vegetables, drink plenty of water and top it off with some eggs. As an appetizer, might we recommend starting with Super Mario Bros. 2™, a delicious morsel starring everyone's favorite plumber. But in this game, players can control three other characters as well. As an entrée, try the dolphin. Not to eat, of course, but to play. Ecco™: The Tides of Time is a swimmingly fun underwater adventure. Finally, let a multi-headed dragon help you cleanse your palate in DRAGON SPIRIT™. This week is a veritable feast of delicious games.

Three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES®, 1 player, rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Join Mario™, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad in an incredible fantasy world on a quest to save the day. This time, they have little more than vegetables to defend themselves with. Pick up items and throw them at your adversaries to clear levels in seven massive worlds. Even enemies can be picked up and tossed across the screen. Each character has a unique set of abilities: Luigi can jump higher and farther than any of the other characters, Toad can dig extremely fast and pull items out of the ground quicker than anyone and the princess is the only one who can jump and hover temporarily. This unique installment in the Mario series will keep you coming back for more.

Ecco: The Tides of Time (Sega Genesis, 1 player, rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): In this sequel to Ecco the Dolphin, everyone's favorite underwater hero must battle the Vortex Queen and her hive of drones. The wicked queen followed Ecco back to Earth from the future and quickly established her hive. It's up to Ecco to defeat this alien threat by navigating the depths of his side-scrolling world, solving puzzles and receiving help from his marine-mammal friends. When Ecco used the time machine to save his pod, he split the stream of time in two. He must now restore the rift before the world is permanently changed into a mechanical world, sucked dry by the Vortex.

DRAGON SPIRIT (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 600 Wii Points): A fantastic world of adventure unfolds in this vertical-scrolling shooter. Sealed away by the gods long ago, the Evil Demon of Darkness, Zawell, seeks to rise again and unleash a new reign of evil. The brave warrior Amur races to rescue Princess Alicia from the demon's wretched clutches. Amur takes the form of the legendary Blue Dragon and fights his way through the legions of monsters that await in the sky. Battle your way through eight different areas, using your Dragon Breath to bring down airborne targets and Fireballs to wipe out targets on the ground. Destroy flashing enemies and smash Eggs to uncover different kinds of power-up items. Boost your firepower by increasing the number of heads your dragon has, and defeat all the bosses as you make your way to Zawell's dark lair.
 
I'm waiting on the Stars/Points crossover to take place before I pick up Mario 2. I remember as a kid I got excited for getting up to level 1-3, thinking I was ossom. Never did get past that...

Nothing for me this wiik. I'm still on the fence regarding all the Mario games. I already have two versions of them all (except 64) and don't know if I want to buy them for a 3rd time.
 
Zelda 2 and Mario 2 were games that stumped me as kids. I beat the first of each series over and over...but wasn't till I went back later and played that I could finally beat them. Both were kind of odd departures from the original (for the time)...at the time I way under-appreciated both...fun to get to play them now.

Sonic 2, Golden Axe 2, Ecco 2 and some other stuff.

Not a bad one! I smiled at seeing Sonic 2 there. That's a definite buy for me, perhaps Golden Axe too (I used to play Dynasty Warriors on my Amiga hoping for it to be as good as Golden Axe :D ).
 
Recently purchased Mario 2 and I love it but I wish they released Mario All Stars from the SNES... I realize coming from a business stand point releasing each game individually will bring in more $$ but I hope somewhere down the line once all of the games are released they will release Mario All Stars (because I prefer the SNES version of Mario 2 vs. the NES... but that's just me and my silly opinion)

That was my first home console game ever and I'd definitely buy it.
As you said, though, it woudln't help the sales of the NES games unless, like OoT in Japan, they brought the price up from the usual 800 points.

I'm convinced that All-Stars will be released, however, I don't think we'll see it until the sales of the included games falls below a certain threshold on the VC sales. If you can sell each game for $5 it's more lucrative, but if you can sell them all for $8 to those who won't purchase alone you'll also get sales to those who only bought 1-2 of the others and cannot justify another $10 for the others.

For example, I see a lot of people who will by SMB 3 and many of these would also pick up All-Stars for $8 when released to get the other games resulting in $8 more in Nintendo's pockets where they only would have had $5 before. And you cannot discount the über-fans who would buy all the versions and All-Stars.

I haven't played the N64 version (yet), but WOOT!
