Got 128GB as no matter what storage will never be an issue

This.

I'm OCD about music and might throw in some comic collections too. The more space the less management I need to do. Just like having everything on the device rather than playing around with itunes or streaming.

From the polls here it seems like 64 GB is the most popular size people are ordering. But given iOS 9's 4K video capabilities and the moving images, won't the phone fill up rather quickly? Or do most people not record that much video?

Polls here are TOTALLY not representative of anything - other than most here are ______. (not going there).

They will sell MILLIONS of the 16gb phone. Trust me. Not to me, but they will sell them.

Unless you're storing a lot of photos and videos and/or a huge amount of music, I would get the 64GB. Some will say get the 128GB for peace of mind, but I don't like to spend money unless I'm fairly certain I need to. An iPhone is expensive enough without paying an extra $100 for what you may very well not need.

I'm upgrading from a 32GB 4S that I've had for almost four years. Boosting the storage to 64GB should be plenty for me.
I maybe should have given more info on my particular situation. I'm upgrading from a 4s 32 GB, too. After four years, I'm at about 29-30 GB, and I'd like to bring most of that over to the new phone. So already a 64 GB phone would have half of its space taken up.

Years down the track you will have wished the recordings were in 4K. It will become the standard, not now, but a few years down the track.
Agreed. I am curious, though, if you will have the option to record in just 1080p, or if not, how other devices will handle these video files. For example, I'm not sure what my TV would do if it was fed a 4k video.

End of the day, you know your needs. If you are a massive video / picture taker, 64gb might not be enough . I don't depend on iCloud, I still prefer to have my assets kept locally.
I agree, for three reasons. One, I don't want to pay for iCloud storage; two, I have just a 1 GB/month data plan; and three, who knows if I'll be in a spot that has the Internet bandwidth to pull down 4k video when I want it.

That's close to my situation. I don't anticipate adding apps to what I have, though I may replace some. I keep my photos mostly in Dropbox and not on my phone, and I don't download movies, etc.

My largest storage area goes to music. While I will add to that, I will remove some things from the phone that I don't often listen to. In my case, I thing 64GB will work fine. If you have a strong concern, going with 128GB will certainly take care of that.

Go for 128gb, man, sounds like you may keep the 6S for another 4 years, if your storage doubles by then, which would be 60gb(the 64gb phones have 57gb iirc), you may be constrained within the last year or so, may be worth getting a 128gb, so no worries in the future. Also there is an option to record in 1080p on the 6S.

Yeah, I'll probably go 128 so I can put what I like on it. I don't plan to add more apps, but I can add the rest of my music collection. And I hope to keep the phone for several years like I did the 4s, so the larger sized photos and videos will add up over time.

Depends on what you do with it - I have a 128GB iPhone6 at the moment and the storage has around 45% free. That's largely high bitrate music, 120FPS 1080 videos and apps. I see a lot of people saying that they have no use for 4K but if you've ever tried watching 480P videos in fullscreen on a 1080p or higher monitor/TV, just think how crap your 1080p videos will look in 10 years time when we're onto 4k or 8K displays.

Puh-leez. How many 4K displays will be viewing all your epic videos? I'm gonna be getting by fine with 16GB, I read somewhere that the average 12MP live photo is only 2x the size of a normal photo.

Apples main desktop machine will
Have no problems. Also 4K displays are becoming common, and will continue until
The iPhone 7 is released, which will continue support.

People said the same about 1080p

I thought 64 was more than I would ever need when I had the 5S, got the 128gb on the 6 and quickly passed 64 without even knowing. After cleaning off my phone right now, minus a few games I leave on for my son when he needs to be occupied, I still only have 50gb free and that is bare bones with what I like to have on there. that will grow smaller as we get bigger and bigger apps and better video I think.

Quick question: when you say you have 20k pictures in the Cloud (presumably iCloud) are you using iCloud as a transfer system where if there's 20k pictures in iCloud that means you have them also (all 20k of them) on your device

OR

Using iCloud as a literal cloud storage system where say you have a folder in iCloud with your photos, all 20k of them?

I used iCloud as my cloud storage for my photos, i sync it with Photos in my Mac so when i need a photo i just select the one that i want and i will get it in my device.

For me it'll probably be enough. Currently I'm using about 33GB. With app thinning and being able to clear out some unused stuff, I should have more than enough space for some 4k videos (which I probably won't take too frequently)

I thought app thinning was only for download and installing sizes?

Are the installed apps smaller also?

Honestly 32GB is the sweet spot. 64GB is too large and 16GB is too small.

Shame Apple doesn't drop the 16GB model.

Lol so funny watching people get defensive when someone makes any remark about the decision they made. Yeah sure lets spend a few hundred bucks on our nifty iPhones so we can "not record in 4K" or just "transfer my photos to my laptop"

Yep same here. All my music is on the phone and I have comics and other stuff on there. 128GB and you do not have to worry about space.

Obviously depends on the user. For me personally, I don't record much video. Most of the media I store on my phone is music. Even with over 500 songs and over 1300 pictures, I'm only using about 20 GB on my 6 right now.

You should definitely go 128Gb, based upon how long you tend to keep your phone. With bigger apps, bigger pix, bigger everything, just bite the bullet, treat yourself, and enjoy the next few years with it. It's only $100 extra jump over 64Gb!

Only the user his/herself can decide whether 64GB is enough or not. Based on Apple's decision in terms of storage options, I'm assuming many will find 16GB sufficient, most will find 64GB more than enough, with few will need 128GB.

My own general rule of thumb, if you plan to put videos/movies on your phone, then get as much storage as you can afford. Other than that, apps, pictures, music, etc don't take that much space (unless you refuse to do any housekeeping and want to keep everything on your phone).

what size storage do you have now and how much free. i would say if you have 30% free you can make do. you can put more in cloud or move to laptop/pc.

i will get the 128gb though. for only 5 more dollars per month on Next, a no brainer. i will then keep more of my ripped movies on device.
$%^&$...that's good logic, but I already ordered!

I initially preordered the 64gb but then cancelled it and preordered the 128gb. I currently have only 16.4gb available on my 64gb 5S, so it's worth the extra $100 for me to get the larger capacity. I keep my phones for 2 years, and with the live photo and higher resolution photos, I'm guessing I'm going to need the extra space. I like keeping my photos on my phone, as well as backing them up on my laptop. That's just me. Oh, and I recently was on a week's vacation with someone who had a 16gb iPhone who, after the first day, kept asking everyone else to take photos because she had no more room on her phone. 16gb seems way too small to be useful IMHO. Everyone is different though, so you have to make the right decision for your personal preferences and needs.
