I think it will sell extremely well.

I've delayed upgrading my iPad Air since nothing else interested me. I'll be upgrading.

For the first month or so after release, iPad Pro was a bit hard to get. Most stores had them in stock, but not necessarily the color/storage combo you wanted. I don't know how preorders went, as I didn't preorder this time.

It's true that iPads haven't sold out the last few releases, but a lot of people might be upgrading if it has Pencil support. If you really want it on day one, I'd stay up and preorder, but if you don't mind waiting a week or so, preordering at a normal time or walking into a store should do it.
Apple will play their game as usual, deflate the stock of the product to act like the product has high demand...then demand actually increases due to human ignorance....

My 1st gen iPad mini just can't keep up anymore. I've been waiting for this update. Because of this, I would like to get one asap. Trying to figure out if I pre-order on Thursday and wait for it to ship till the 31st? Or do I wait till that day and just go to the store??

Anyone that has pre-ordered iPad before have any advice?

You could always pre-order and if you get a ship date of the 31st then keep the preorder. If not then cancel it and go to the store. That said if you go to the store there is no 100% guarantee you will get the model you want. What ever anyone says in this or other similar threads no one can predict the demand or the supply of the various models. It may well be that they will sell out of the model you want. Preordering is less risky in my opinion. i have always pre-ordered iOS devices online and always had the devices arrive on release day or at least ship on that date and arrive a few days later.

Yeah i've heard of people receiving the product on launch day or some even before. May just pre-order.

I don't think it will be sold out and for you to actually use the so-called pro features (keyboard and pencil), you have to shell out about 1000 dollars total. . .

No

iPads are super low demand relative to things like the iPhone.

The iPP 13" was only a touch hard to get as it was a new form factor, at holiday time, and was also the only way to use the Pencil.

I really think the iPP 9.7" will be easy to procure

I'm pretty sure they won't be sold out. If you're not an absolute fanboy, wait a while and you'll get tax-free options and significant discounts on eBay. I mean, Target had a 15% discount just about a month after the official launch of the 12.9" iPad....

This.
A touch of patience will likely net you a $100-$200 of savings.

Always the master of controlling people's perceptions Apple has always succeeded in making people feel like Apple products are bordering on rare and hard to get.

Nope they will not sell out, price point is too high for that. Here in Canada, it's $800 for a 32gb iPad, a $1000 for the 128gb lol these prices are too high for what an iPad delievers. I have an iPad 3 and it's time to upgrade but it won't be the pro cause it's overpriced, mini 4 or air 2 will be the iPad I buy. Sad thing I use my iPad as my main computer, I'd go up to $650 for 64gb basically what the air 2 price is but more than that for less gb seems like a bad joke. I like the iPad, I think their great but Apple is pricing these things to die a slow death. I think Apple would've had a big hit if they left the pricing in line with past iPad.

It sure seems like everything gets sold out here, and I live right in the Silicon Valley area. But last time I tried to buy an iPad from both Palo Alto Apple stores, they did not have the model I wanted, even a couple days after the launch. I'm just going to stick with ordering online.

I purchased the iPad Air 2 64GB today, the Pro isn't worth the price hike for my occasional and simple uses

Keep telling yourself that in year, then 2 years and 3 years. You'd be a fool to not invest the extra $100 to get the latest technology that will last you for a good 3-4 years.

The fact that you're willing to spend $500 on a tablet for "occasional and simple uses" says that an extra $100 isn't out of the question. For simple uses, any cheap Android tablet would have done, but you chose to spend $500 on an Apple product. Pre-order a PRO 9.7 and take back the Air 2 after you get the 9.7.

.... tell that to everyone who used iPad 2 for ~5 years.

You'd be surprised how much value people get out of basic iPad functionality. It will not surprise me if people hang on to their iPad Air 2's for a long long time....

I don't know about the 12.9, but there hasn't been a shortage of 9.7" iPads since the 2 in NYC.

People who got the iPad 2 on release did get 5 years use out of them, but people who got them two years after release are getting only 3 years. Air2 is already a year and a half since release. And it's unlikely the situation with the iPad2, which got longer support because Apple kept selling it for so long, would get repeated. I think Air2 is already close to halfway through its usable life span. Unless your use is so basic that you are still okay with using iOS 5 on iPad 1 (which some people are okay with that), it makes sense to pay the extra $100 to get the most recent model if you plan to hang on to it for more than a year or two.

I can't believe this, I waited 5 years and Apple spits in my face again. I can't believe only 2GB of ram..

I think the pencil is too big for the smaller pro, they should make a more petite version....the pencil mini
I thought that too, but then again you don't use a smaller pencil with different sizes of paper. It does look much bigger than when used on the 12.9" though...

Unless you game a lot, the only limiting factor in the iPad is RAM. The iPad 9.7 Pro has 2GB, it won't be a lot better than a iPad Air 2 in the next couple of years, the difference will be hard to see.
