I have a MBA 11 from 2011. Its battery is 100% dead. Unplug and it shuts off. I used to use this for all kinds of things, even processing 50mp RAW files from my camera...It wasn't a speed demon, but pretty suitable. Now it's a clunker.

Someone suggested that having a dead battery can dramatically dampen performance even when m MBA is plugged in? If that is so, I may buy a $40 replacement instead of selling it off as a "for parts" deal. I could always use it for typing and the keyboard, which I prefer to my current 15" from 2019 ?

Thanks!

nope
my spare 2011 does not have a battery (or display cover) and runs great!
i would zap the pram, sram and maybe go down an OS like El Capitan or see what is slowing down your MacBook.
my other 2010 MacBook air (4GB) is running 2 external hardive swap, music and typing this message using Mojave.

How much free space does the MBA have?
also is this th e2 or 4 GB of RAM version?
both MBA using High Sierra was horrible editing photos while that photo program chashed all week when trying to edit or import a photo.
there are many problems that can slow down a MacBook that can be fixed.
knowing which one is the key

hope this helped!

Interesting. Well, I just flashed it with a fresh install of high sierra. It was pretty clunky before I did that. So I will see how it goes after that.

Any advice of which battery to get? I'm guessing since you didn't do that, you may not know :)

OWC they last for 3 years and have a nice 1 year guarantee
im still using mine form 2010
ya know,  might have some left over, Miscocenter sells some last i checked.

and
Mojave is so much better, the patch from dosdude is easy to install and the MacBook air runs better!

how much ram does the MacBook air have?
2 is not enough to edit photos and run programs as 4GB does.
and getting a new ssd drive might speed up things.

Question for you sir: Do I need to zap the pram, sram on the new 14" MacBook Pro once in a while or not? Or something else, like rebuild the desktop like on the older machines? Thank you for any info!

I don't want to pour any money into it besides maybe the battery...this might be a holdover until I grab a newer Macbook Air. Trying to find one with 16GB of RAM used is tricky.

It has 4GB of RAM. Do you know how I'd find Mojave and patch? I'm running HS so should be relatively easy, no? Thanks!

if there was a house fire, and dosdude and tim cook needed to be rescued,
i'd help dosdude first,
then buy him a beer!
or 2

im hesitant on spending money on my MacBook air and looking into a MBP2012.

Thank you! Super helpful. Really appreciate it.

You sure this will work for a 2011 Air? In the reqs it looks like it's talking about 2008-9 MBPs
