Hey everyone,

I recently purchased the iPhone 15, and I have to admit, I'm feeling a bit frustrated. As someone who recently invested in the current iteration, I can't shake off the concern that my device might become obsolete in terms of AI advancements once the new iOS is released. It's disheartening to think that the device I acquired less than six months ago might not be able to fully harness these advancements.

I'm eager to hear everyone's thoughts on this matter.

Your iPhone 15 will be useless with the new iOS and its AI features, get rid of it while you can before the new iPhones/iOS come out.
Yicks... That's what I'm trying to do right now.

While it is expected that most [if not all] supported iOS devices will have access to the Ai features of iOS 18. The iPhone 15/ 15 Pro is the current iPhone being sold.

The A16/A17 Pro will support 100% of all Ai features expected to be announced at WWDC.

Apple has positioned the mainstream iPhone as an n-1 device since iPhone 14. If you wanted the “latest” it would have been the Pro/Max.

Of course it will. When WWDC comes round the 15 will be the latest model. They won’t announce features for a phone that doesn’t even exist yet.

AI is a gimmick. Billions spent on nvidia chips. No return on investment. Such a waste.

The end result is stuff like googles ai search which is next to useless. Or ChatGPT.

Next comes Apple with a rush to offering half baked so called ai features just so they can keep the stock up.

Much of wwdc will be an attempt to buy more time. As they’ve already done. Tim is probably peeing his pants hoping he can sell some rushed half baked features that won’t be reliable. Doesn’t bode well considering the false hype.

If this would work like chatgpt, then hell yeah I'll use it!
Any ChatGPT-like LLM won’t be able to run on iPhone 16. I predict you’ll be much less disappointed once you hear what the actual iPhone 16 (Pro)-exclusive features will be.

Following Gurman's rumors — and his are usually correct — "Many of the on-device AI capabilities will require an iPhone 15 Pro or later to work" :(

Hope you are right, my friend. Then, I can truly stick with iP15. Actually, maybe @cardfan is also right - there's a long way for Apple to join the race in AI unless they built Siri on chatGPT ;)

Not trying to be too negative but the buzz is way off as well. I’m sure there will be certain features that will be cool. This is much like the buzz during the dot com bust era. Not all of it was a bust though. The internet changed everything.

We’re certain to pop this bubble too. It’s costly to run these llms. https://apple.news/A-mm42JMjScCEtM3_4o7huw

What automatic feature in any app that  has ever made was really cool?
None I can think of. AI is all about trying to do more stuff automatically. Since  has a dismal track record at best for automatic features, why does anyone think that suddenly everything will be wonderful on the next OS release?

I wouldn't worry about it. That kind of thinking doesn't contribute to a good life and there really isn't an end to that rabbit hole, so you'll just end up second-guessing endlessly.
Yeah, always eyeing for the next would just make The waiting game permanent, and never satisfy with what you have.

Lmao. Apple should only offer feature updates for up to 2 generations of iOS only: the one available on release and the next one, while continuing to offer security updates For 5+ years.

Most apple’s automatic features I have ever used are mediocre at best and useless at worst. I have turned off all automatic features in my AirPods Pro except noise cancellation because that one is quite decent.

Since Gurman is saying iPhone 15 Pro and M1 only, this means 8GB RAM needed. M1 neural engine is far slower than A17 Pro.

If you want on-board AI processing, don't get the regular iPhone 15.

If what Gurman said is true then the base 15 will be excluded from those on-device AI features.

It's most likely either that, or devices that have an M1 are larger and can sustain a higher load without overheating.

It will be telling to see if the rumored SE will include an A18 and/or 8GB RAM to be AI capable.

I don't use any of them. I just have high hopes that Apple is going to remake Siri so it works like ChatGPT. Basically, that's all I need. I've never actually used 'Shortcuts'.

Well, that's another problem of mine :|

But I've already purchased it? >-> That's the point.

As iPhone 15 user myself, I do not worry about it, at all.

Making any core features of iOS exclusive to the latest generation hardware (iPhone 16) will not go well even amongst Apple’s most loyal fan base.

Also the timing is not so good, as Apple are effectively playing an AI catch-up game and try to rebuild Siri from the ground up. My guess is that it will be like early days of Apple Maps and will take at least a year to smooth out. By then we will be expecting iPhone 17. Let’s also not forget that iPhones have pretty much peaked hardware-wise and no extra hardware buttons will be lining people up.

As of 2024, the iPhone 13 is the most common iPhone model in circulation worldwide. Do Apple really expect everyone to suddenly upgrade? If so, this is very naive.

Don't be sad or should I say angry when you're iPhone 15 will be useless in few month because you won't be able to run the latest and the greatest iOS with all its AI features.

If they just improved Siri it would be nice. She can’t do some of the simplest or things.

In my opinion Apple is more likely to hold off a few more demanding features for a couple of years in so they don't get backlash. Or launch more with the iPhone 16 as an exclusive like they did with Siri on the 4S, perhaps announcing that the 15 Pro will also be getting them with a later version of iOS 18. But what gets announced at WWDC I think most supported devices with a neural engine will get. Otherwise it's just calling for a PR crisis I'm sure they'd rather avoid. Also their competition is offering AI and customers don't really care all that much where it happens, we just want the feature so you can imagine how bad it'd make them look if they go on stage to confirm the iPhone 15 you just bought won't do the things the Galaxy S24 does, even though on here we all know the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 blows A16 out of the water.

What PR crisis though? Apple has offered new features only on new devices since iPhone 4S. Consumers basically never got new camera features even if the hardware is the same (iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13).

Apple markets themselves as offering security and privacy, not leading edge features for old iPhones.
