Yeah that's exactly what I mean. They didn't launch those device-exclusive features at WWDC, they announced them with the device itself. WWDC was always stuff mostly every supported device would get and in September we get to see what other features the new device may have as exclusives.What PR crisis though? Apple has offered new features only on new devices since iPhone 4S. Consumers basically never got new camera features even if the hardware is the same (iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13).
Apple markets themselves as offering security and privacy, not leading edge features for old iPhones.
