If you are going to be very partiular about the condition of the MBP then I suggest you buy from Amazon rather than Apple.

My experience has been that Apple will replace your MBP but it will take time...they want ot troubleshoot first and then they will set up a replacement. But it's a hassle.

Amazon doesn't care about daignosing the problem. You can just order a new machine, have it sent next day ($3.50 option for Prime customers) and then return your defective machine the next day. They will even pay for the return shipping. I got two bad MBPs (keyboard problem and bad DVD drive) and had to return them both to Amazon. Absolutely no problems. I didn't have to wait on hold. I did it completely on line and the only reason I had ot give was that I wasn't satisfied with the product.

i made the mistake of trying to go through Apple for one of the machines and it basically took my entire lunch hour trying to explain that my machine was defective and I needed a new one. i gave up and figured out that returning through Amazon would be much more efficient.

Am I the only one who got a good screen first try in the apple store by just walking in and buying one? I mean I did use my friends employee discount but I don't think that magically solved anything.

I can't do that as I have a BTO and I can use a discount because of who I work for but only through the Mac website.

I just switched the computer off and looked at the screen under my light. The pixels affected appear as a black spot amongst all the others even with the computer switched off! I unplugged the power and removed the battery and pressed the power buttons as well as pressing the key's. The pixels remained the same?
Why are the pixels still dark and look like a hole when the computer is off even?

i suggest you stop complaining, go to the apple store and get a replacement.

apple has had it right since their first notebooks, but not EVERY laptop will be perfect. they are, after all, made by humans..

Apple's quality is getting as bad as Dell's and Dell's is getting better. To say otherwise shows you are just a fanboi. I love Apple but I'm getting more pissed at them as the day goes on. I say that as an Apple user and a shareholder.

To all those who say the original poster should be happy it's only four pixels and get on with it. I'd hate to be the companies you work for if half finished crap is what you settle for.

If even one pixel on the screen isn't working it is defective. Any other manufacturer realises this. I had this problem with an acer laptop a couple of years ago. Called them, then sent a new one before I had even returned the old one - that is customer service.

The more people just that just accept this sort of crap from Apple, the worse they are going to get. It's happening in all their products.

I get kind of tired posting this, I also get tired of reading thread after thread about the same thing.

I have posted in at least three other threads my experience with Apple and a MBP with one dead pixel. Long story short, they exchanged my MBP without even checking it. They also, insisted that I take a free sleeve for my new MBP. I realize some people have not had the same experience but, Apple's customer service has been second to none for many, many consumers.

what right do you have to call someone else a fanboi??? you dont even know me!!

do you have results showing the percentage of success/failure rates of apples products? or do you just look at all the posts online and assume them?

what's more is that you compare apple to dell *shock horror*, apple has never been nor will be as bad as dell in regards to customer service and knowledge of products. at least when you ring up apple's customer service they know what a computer is, and can talk you through basic problems, replace a laptop etcetc.

Well, I have run the little video that flashes the colours for a good few hours now and it's made no difference. In fact seeing as I can see the pixel as a black hole with the computer switched off it's either a mark on the screen it self or the pixels are totally knackered.
I'll run that online LCD tool for an hour or 2 then that's it I'm calling Apple again. I think I'll just ask for a full refund as I'm not gambling with over $3000 weather I get a good defect free product or not as this is the second one now so that a 200% failure rate for me.
It's also interesting reading around the web how many people have problems with the aluminium iMac screen's too. I'm sorry but to me it smells of cheap cost cutting.

I'm definitely sending it back, I have had a separate monitor to show the desktop and the mac screen as an extended monitor to get rid of the menu bar. It has the white background in use that it came with so I can see the dead pixels. I have just noticed however that on the left of the screen there is like a shadow running down the side, if I look at the screen at an angle it looks like a big yellow streak!!!
The rest of the computer is fine. I've been so busy looking at the dead pixels I haven't noticed this. What a crappy screen!

EDIT:
Well I just unplugged the external monitor so the Mac is the main screen and the yellow bar and shadow has now moved to underneath the length of the menu bar. Is it supposed to do that?

If they're stuck (on a color) then you can fix them with a widget. If they're dead (black) you have to live with it. EVERY COMPANY HAS DEAD PIXELS. Apple is not special.

But we're paying a premium price for a premium product. My MacBook Pro has a flawless screen, absolutely fantastic. It was the first one I bought. A few years down the line when it comes time to replace this one, I'll expect exactly the same quality. Dead pixels? It goes back.

Same here. Perfect on the first try because I took my MBP out of the box and turned it on inside the store. Would never buy a 3K anything off the internet sight unseen.

Well non of the fix it programmes have worked, I spent all last evening installing Windows just ot run one that was Windows only. Checked this morning after leaving it to run overnight and no different. I shall be calling Apple tomorrow for a replacement or full refund. Looking around the web there are a lot of issues with these new models, I just wish I was one of the lucky ones with a perfect machine.

Good for you mate i'm glad you've got a working computer, but i ordered my mbp in october and i still haven't got one that is OK. I am currently on the phone to apple now to replace yet another one, this time with 4 dead pixels on the screen in a pretty little clump. It pisses enormously because i am a design student and actually bought the computer to work on. Cosmetics don't really bother me but dead pixels do because they get in the way.

Its not the fact that apple are not willing to replace the computer (they are more than willing to offer me replacement after replacement) its the fact that these laptops have so many defects in the first place - whatever happend to quality control?

I wish i had just gone with base configuration but i had the hard drive upgraded because i do a lot of video editing. Then I could at least check it in the shop instead of having it custom built in china each time which is a complete joke!

Couldn't agree more. I get a discount because of who I work for and save about 143 UK pounds which is pretty good. But I only get the discount online, plus I want the faster hard drive. I'll be calling Apple tomorrow morning to see what they say. And decide if I want a replacement or a refund.

Well I just called Apple, they offered me an extension on the period before I have to return it to the beginning of January. I said no though as knowing my luck I'll drop it or something stupid lol. Don't want to take the risk. So another replacement is gonna be mine, I just hope this one is fine, ad also after having this LG screen I can't see what all the fuss is about? Then again I've no idea if I've seen the other one?
