Will people ever stop referring to 1st gen iPhones as 2G? "iPhone 3G" is what apple is calling their 2nd gen iPhone. There is no such thing as a "2G iPhone" and to make matters worse people refer to their 4G iPod to mean "fourth generation" so 2G means the 2nd gen which is this gen iPhone 3G omg (EXPLODES!)@!

they just call it 2G because it uses EDGE. EDGE = 2/2.5G , don't get so mad at them when it is sort of true (in the realm of iPhones, not ipods)

how can i make sure the refurbished ipods that are being sold are of good quality?

Well Apple does sell current generation and previous generation ipods side by side in the refurb area all the time. Right now they have current generation and previous generation ipod shuffels for sale on the refurb page and in the past i have seen all kinds of previous generation ipods for sale there. I think the only thing that would stop them from selling them as refurbs is they still have about 10 months left of warrenty to the last people that bought the 2.5G before 3G plus applecare people. They will need to keep a bunch ready for all the people who will need replacement 2.5G iphones over the next 2 years.

A great way to ensure that you are getting a legitimate refurbished iPod is by purchasing the refurbished iPod directly from the original manufacturer, in this case Apple.:)

Apple may indeed offer 1st gen iPhone refurbs, but I guess, only as a replacement for an existing 1st gen model that's defective, as long as it's still under warranty (standard, Apple care, etc). They won't sell them to 'new' customers, as that product line is officially finished.

What is a refurbished iPod anyway?

Hey. I'm sorry for not being so techy. I'd like to know which is which. I recently bought an iPod. What's the difference between a brand new one and a refurbished iPod?

A refurbished iPod or any other type of product is defined by an iPod that was previously used being restored to like-new working conditions. Another way to define a refurbished iPod is when an iPod has been sent back to the manufacturer to be replaced with new, and better working parts. Thus a refurbished iPod is just like a new iPod, except it has been used before. However, the actual working components within the refurbished iPod are normally new, and it will perform like a brand new product.

However, there are vendors that sell “refurbished iPods” when they haven’t been taken back to the manufacturer for repair. A refurbished iPod is a great way to save money when purchasing this type of product; however, it is imperative that you make sure that you are actually buying a refurbished iPod and not simply a used iPod. The main reason for this is because if you buy a used iPod that hasn’t gone through any modifications, than you can unwillingly upload a virus or other harmful items into your computer. Or you can receive a refurbished iPod that has limited battery power and numerous malfunctions.

That's pretty easy. You just have to purchase the refurbished iPod directly from the original manufacturer, in this case Apple. If you go to Apple’s website, you can easily find a section that is dedicated to all of their refurbished products. At the Apple website you can purchase an actual refurbished iPod, and you even have the option to purchase an extended warranty for your refurbished iPod directly through Apple. This is a great way to ensure that you are buying an actual refurbished iPod.

No. That's just not how apple rolls. It may make some sense, but Apple likes to make a clean break when they have moved on technology wise.
