Break it. Tit for tat. Google intentionally blocked Apple Vision Pro from accessing YouTube and Google maps ipad apps because they were releasing Samsung XR device.

Google has leverage now that Gemini is gonna be used for Siri.
When both companies are under scrutiny for antitrust issues you really think this is the case? "Don't mess with my Quick Share implementation and I'll give you Gemini" as a secret deal is guaranteed to be scrutinized to hell.

Isn’t AirDrop supposed to be fully encrypted? How is Google making something compatible with something that is supposed to be fully encrypted?

Because Apple users look down on Andriod users with contempt, that they are willing to make their lives worse, in order to punish people who they believe are less than them (because of a phone they purchased)

Same core reason why so many people are willing to vote for a political party that hurts them, because it hurts 'others' even more.
Exactly. That’s why certain farmers are willing to vote for the same guy three times, then ask for a bailout.

YouTube.com works fine. I’ve used it, personally.

Can’t blame them for not wanting to test and support AVP considering it had one foot in grave the day it was released.

This absolutely needs shutting down as its both a security risk and damaging to the ecosystem Apple has invested huge sums of money in building out. You hear it all the time from people reviewing Android hardware... they miss AirDrop when they try switching to anything not an iPhone.

Shut it down. Kill it. Apple has every right to lock Android out.

Ecosystems need to be damaged; killed even. Use what you want, on whatever system you want, for whatever reason you want.

It’s YOUR phone, not Apples.

This ecosystem is our ecosystem - those of us in the Apple family. It is safe, it is secure, it is sacred to the overarching Apple experience. I'm confident Apple will fix this security vulnerability via a software update.

I’m confident Apple will do whatever they can to lock you in, to this sacred (ha) and holy ecosystem. Spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch.

What a load of crock..

Why is anyone here *against* interoperability like this? I've so often wanted to AirDrop something to my Android friends and been frustrated that it's not possible. This is a GOOD thing with zero downside to us users.

Nobody is *against* the idea of interoperability, but AirDrop was a secure sharing protocol developed by Apple for Apple devices. Competition is important, but it's also great when Apple contributes their tech to the larger industry, such as MagSafe becoming Qi 2.

I am against Google willfully breaking into the AirDrop protocol, but then one must ask how they managed that, and if it was as secure as Apple portrayed it as.

Did Google reverse-engineer it, or was AirDrop already built using industry-standard tech that Google was able to embrace, too?

If they try to stop it I'm sure the EU will have something to say about it.
I believe this is exactly why Google took the approach they did here. If they let it be, Google wins. If they shut it down, Google paints Apple as being anti-competitive (and, in that case, Google wins).

It's a classic win/win for Google.

Not it's not. It is Apple's ecosystem. You're just one of the dandelions living in the garden. You only get to live there for as long as Apple considers you a flower and not a weed.

That's not how the software layer works, though. Years ago, we had to pay $129.00 to get the newest version of OS X. Remember that? Eventually it become "free", but it's not really free. Apple changed their financial structure to make the software a service-based feature of their hardware.

An iPhone would only truly be fully yours if you removed iOS and installed other software.

Let me guess.

Google is going to start another “shame” campaign against Apple. Like they tried with RCS (which backfired when Apple refused to use Google’s implementation of RCS).

Now they’re going to say Apple needs to work to make file sharing across devices from iOS & Android interoperable.

Funny. All I see are Android users projecting this false trait onto iPhone users so they have some made-up issue to argue about.

Goes hand-in-hand with the similar claim that Apple customers are sheep and will buy anything made by Apple so they can explain why the iPhone dominates. They simply refuse to believe it’s because Apple makes the best smartphone and so they fabricate an alternative reason.

Wait for it....

Just a little longer....

There it is.

Elitism. Some people like to feel like they are in an exclusive club. They don't want the "commoners" polluting their pool water.

Again funny. It’s the Android users who are elitist talking about how advanced tech users prefer Android as they can customize it and tweak their devices as they see fit. They claim iPhone users are just sheep who buy them because they lack the skills of “tach savvy” Android users.

Thanks for helping to make my point (along with several other posters in this thread).

It’s funny because they are both ridiculous sterotypes that have no bearing in the world outside of internet echochambers.

No one cares what you use, Apple or Android, something else, or none.

Apparently several people in this thread absolutely care. Along with those who choose to upvote their comments. Makes it easy to identify where people really stand. 😉
