before wasting time with that, can we at least get something incredibly basic and useful like a system wide real 10 band equalizer (not useless presets) that remembers settings for each bluetooth device?!

Apple should also add volume processing for a nice even level between each track, like VolumeLogic did in the past (back in the iTunes 10.7 period). It was perfect "radio"

What I would really like are some tools to help me to manage my existing collection, and an improved discovery system that better understands the nuances of my taste.

Instead I think we’ll probably see a subtle shift away from the notion of a personal collection and towards the concept of ‘everything’ being in our library with AI selecting and serving up music on our behalf.

That might be great for some, but it really isn’t for me. I want help managing my collection and finding good new music, but I don’t want that entire process taken out of my hands entirely.

Hopefully I’m wrong! I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Good lord don't them do a Spotifycation of Apple Music! If that's the way Apple Music evolves, I'll save myself a bit of money, and go back to my old ways.

I hope any Apple Music AI lists are better than Spotify. I asked it for a running playlist that was exactly 23 mins and 59 seconds long. It came back with 300 songs. Tried refining 3 times. Did same thing each time.
Won’t waste my time on it again.

The problem we have these days, and as iPhone users in particular, is that there are only really 3 music platforms and we’re all completely beholden to thier UI decisions. We can’t easily chuck a bunch of mp3s on a phone and listen to them, let alone manage them as a library with playlists and cloud integration. In effect we’re locked out of managing our music as we see fit.

I’d love to see a shift to an open music collection standard, whereby the user can subscribe to a music streaming service they like and access it through any front end app they like. You’d very quickly see an explosion of apps offering a far more personalised experience.

Has it got that bad? I think iTunes Match and Apple Music might have made me lazy. I've been using iTunes/Music since the 2nd Gen iPod nano, and a large portion of my music library is from my CDs that I've ripped in iTunes over the years. I listen to what I want whenever I want, because it's all accessible from my phone at my leisure. I have not investigated what my options are should I let Apple Music lapse, as that's something I've not considered. Unless Apple stuffs it up massively, Apple Music will be the last subscription that I get rid of.

This sounds like something that they used to have 20 years ago and inexplicably took away - Genius Playlists! I used to love genius playlists. If I couldn't decide what I wanted to listen to, I would start a full library shuffle and skip tracks until something came up that fitted the mood. Then I'd have Genius Playlists make me a playlist based on that song, and it was incredibly effective every single time. I have no idea why they took it away.

I’m in much the same boat, my first iPod brought me in to using iTunes and not too long after I’d ripped all my CDs and given them to charity (I still regret that!).

Match is a great service and it’s what keeps me in Apple Music, not least because I have a lot of stuff that isn’t available on streaming.

My issue really is that I’m now stuck with Music - there are no other options for me on iPhone. So I have no choice but to overlook lots of little UI niggles, many of which might not bother the average user.

For example; the standard Album playlist is completely useless as it presents every release as an album. Download a playlist of 10 tunes on 10 different albums and those 10 albums will appear in the Album playlist, even though you only have 1 song from each. Singles appear on the Album playlist. It’s rubbish, it’s been this way forever, and they never try to fix it.

As a result because I like listening to albums I need to come up with workarounds to try and keep my albums accessible and not lost down the songs list somewhere.

I could list loads more of these! Artists and Genres are just as bad in their own ways. But I have no other app options, so I put up with it even though it doesn’t improve.

So that’s bad enough, but the real issue is that Apple could completely change how the music app works in a way I like even less and if I don’t like it it’s just tough ****.

Who knows maybe they’ll implement AI really well and it’ll solve all my issues. I hope to be pleasantly surprised, but the way tech has been headed the past 5/10 years I’m not gonna be holding my breath!

And yes, I know you can still make them in the desktop app and sync them to your phone, but what's the point in that. I used to be able to do it on my 4th gen iPod. Surely a modern iPhone can cope.

Will MacRumors stop using this terrible format of image for their posts in iOS 27?

God, I hope so.

I know what you mean, but you might want to get your Apple News from somewhere that doesn't have "Rumors" in the web address and the name of the site if it really bothers you.

it's also useful to keep in mind that we don't pay to access Macrumors, which means that we're the product being sold to their advertisers

I don’t seem to have all the same problems, but what I have noticed lately is that sometimes an album will corrupt, and some tracks will split off into another instance of that album. Sometimes I can edit the metadata and fix it, sometimes not. That gets annoying.

I don't want AI playlists! I don't even want the multitude of additional sorting options Apple forces on the sidebar. I just want to see MY playlists. I click on it I can see MY songs. That's it. Music app / iTunes was perfect with version 1. Clear and easy to use and it's just got ever more complicated to just find a song and play it.

I loved my original iPod because it removed friction and simplified listening to my music.

But if I need to learn how to compose prompts to feed an unpredictable AI engine so I can listen to music it thinks I might like then, sorry, I’ll just turn on the radio.

Maybe try Tidal for streaming and Swinsian for playing local files. I switched from Apple Music and I am very happy I did.

Agree, most streaming services have an interface that is completely dominated by suggestions and automated playlists. To build a collection you will have to think offline.

To me the bigger question is how many users exist who actually give a crap if there are AI created playlists or not. I personally doubt that there are statistically many, but what do I know. I personally would rather Apple advertised something along the lines of "To Hell With AI" than to have these wasting energy in some data center. Very few people are still infatuated with the tech industry, and that trend is going to deepen.
The best part is, we're already paying for AI with our electric bills. Now they get to charge us to use it

Do people actually want these features? It sounds awful! When I want to listen to music, I already know what I want to listen to, and if I don't just want to listen to an album, I can make a playlist myself, thanks! If I don't, I can just browse my library!
How do you make a playslist containing every single feature from X artist?

How do you make a playlist for songs that fit agressive driving?

How do you make a playlist for running that's ONLY hip-hop ?

That's right.
