I currently have some rewards to use at Best Buy so would prefer to buy from there. Does anyone know if they generally get the i7 models?

I am a web developer and gamer. Currently I have a pretty nice PC setup but also do quite a bit of work on my MacBook Pro which I love, but also find frustrating since it isn't hooked up to my big monitors. It's a lot of back and forth between the two computers, which I'm not a fan of.

I'm looking to be able to consolidate my work on one computer AND something that will support my gaming habits without too much of a performance degradation. For what it's worth I mainly play World of Warcraft and The Sims.

For development, I frequently have to use Photoshop and sometimes need many documents open as a result. I need something capable of handling that and the ability to process many photos at once. I'm just wondering if the i5 would be a huge hit compared to the i7.

I know I definitely want to the 27".

    Thanks!

For photos, the i5 will be fine. The i7 is for multithreaded applications -- especially helpful for video compression of long form video projects. I don't think there will be any performance penalty for your work (or gaming)

I noticed Best Buy does carry the 2015 i7, so likely they will have a 2017. But you'll need to take their configuration which includes the Apple Installed RAM tax.... If cost is a concern, get an i5, 2-3TB Fusion Drive, but spend on the highest video card they have as I assume it will help in the gaming. Purchase from Amazon/NewEgg 2 X 8GB RAM to bring your total to 24Gb RAM (Should be MORE than enough). Takes 10 seconds to install.

Alternatively, get the 512 SSD and keep all your photos etc on an external drive (my preference) for handling media.

It would likely depend on the exact config you're after. Right now they list having one model of the i7 on their site and with 32gb of ram ($3199 and it's still the 2015 model). I would think their BTO options are probably going to be limited like in the past, so if you're looking for an i7 and customize the hard drive or ram options Best Buy or any other retailer probably won't be the place to buy from.
