Lol yea. Nice surprise. Next up, GM... Maybe?

No way. Beta 6 was an emergency update to fix a single issue. There's still one more beta coming, only now they'll call it beta 7. Who knows, there might even be a beta 8, though I doubt it.

Perhaps you didn't know?

Emergency hot fix doesn't really count :p

Well many sources said one more beta, so since this one was an emergency fix, there may still be one more left. Guess it's a wait and see what now until sources give more info.

That's what I'm thinking. I think the "one more beta" that was supposed to come out, hasn't come out yet. I'm guessing we'll see it on Tuesday at 1:00 Eastern.

But in the past they always eventually deviate, so this one was bound to do the same. So again, I don't understand the surprise.

I'm going to disagree since it got a number. :p

I'm surprised you don't understand why I'm surprised ;)

I'm still waiting for AirDrop to be enabled across iOS/OS X, I want to try it w/my Mac

...two more betas, maybe 3...beta 8 or 9 b4 GM.

new iPhones, maybe iwatch, iOS 7 public release Oct. 4th

I'm not sure what's really making you think there will be that many betas and that late of a public release..

Most likely looking at beta 7 next week followed by the GM on September 10th, public release a week or so later.

By the way, it's interesting that one of the main sources that "leaked" all that information and still didn't know about the beta 6 release that would happen only hours after the leak, still thinks that this beta 6 was in fact the one they were talking about coming next week and it's just the GM that remains now: http://bgr.com/2013/08/15/ios-7-beta-6-download-link-iphone-ipad/ So, seems like it all needs to be taken with a large bucket of salt at best.

I don't think BGR have thought about the fact that the one released today was a hot fix, so are counting it as the expected one, so are skipping straight to GM. I reckon they'll change their tune.

Depending on who the source is, it's entirely feasible they may have known about a planned release for next week but not known about an emergency hot fix, if you actually think about it, rather than just shoot anyone down cos you don't like people talking about stuff unless apple have confirmed everything.....

At the same time you still have to question a source that seems to know of an upcoming release but not know of one that will be happening within hours. How much does that source truly know then and/or how old is that sources information? It could very well simply be some generic schedule (perhaps even a dated one) that Apple had/has that the source has somehow seen somewhere, but it can also mean that it might not mean that much in the last few weeks when things can change quicker and schedules (especially those that were created earlier on) aren't really applicable any more. I'm not really trying to shoot things down per se, as much as to say even all these "source" materials really need to be taken with more than a grain of salt.

All I ever see you do is jump on anyone that even hints at talk about releases, shooting them down like they shouldn't talk about it..... A lot of the sources have been right, the hot fix was exactly that, a short notice fix rushed out at short notice. It's easy for the source not to have know, as, unless it's someone directly working on the team, they wouldn't have up to the minute info, maybe a day old. Additionally, the sites reporting the info from the sources would check with other sources for corroboration, so that'll take time too.

It's an interesting double-standard of sorts. People will come out and guess (sometimes with some sort of supporting "theories" behind it) about release dates and whatnot, generally without any real information beyond what they feel and can put together essentially. That's typically all fine and people don't see that as misleading or weird, even if the guesses are not based on anything really or are at least sometimes wrong. But to somehow come out and ask those people for some supporting information justifying their guesses and/or to point out that they can very well be wrong (mind you, without any name-calling or really putting anyone actually down, simply talking about the information) that's seen as somehow not even just bad but somehow even worse than that.

Interesting how that is, isn't it? People just like optimistic things, even if there's nothing to support that "optimism", but quickly look down on anything that's actually more realistic just because it's not as "cool" and "nice".

If people are free to post random guesses that might be likely in one way or another, then shouldn't people be also free to post about those guesses likely simply being guesses and things can be completely different? At the very least that can be treated then as a guess that other guesses are incorrect...just as much of a valid guess then by all those standards, right?

There is no such thing as an internet discussion forum where people don't get upset and argue about stupid s***. In the grand scheme of things, the release date of iOS 7 Beta X matters very, very little and yet it still gets people upset to see a prediction or guess that they don't agree with. I just don't get it.

I know, I try to tell people my guess and they are all over me like I'm a fool. I'm just trying to get people to lighten up and realize that it's not set in stone until Apple says so. ...I just don't see how this can be predicted against past patterns with 2 things here not done before: 1) Apple is releasing TWO (2) new iPhones. 2) iOS 7 is not incremental update, it's a full overhaul, not just UI, but functionally (and I can tell the difference on iPhone 5, but, older phones may be slower, less ram and power.). So, I may be off, but, I still say it will take longer after the announcement, more similar to iPhone 4 where it was 3 weeks after announcement. I'm still saying Oct 4th for new iPhones & iOS 7 public beta within days of that time. iPad will come a couple weeks or so later. ...I'm not betting money, so, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.:p

----------

yes but i just wanted to know is apple still signing beta 5 or not.

hmmm, that's weird, I swear I posted a reply, but it disappeared?

I saw post where they said beta 5 & 6 have same expiration date: Oct 6th. So the answer is yes.

Can anyone tell me the expiry date for beta 2? I'm thinking of going back to it for a while, take screen shots for one thing, (wish I would have, each beta, oh well.).

I believe you can't go back to previous betas. You can stay on an old beta until the date of expiry though.
