Will console level games come to iPad Pro?

After the PS4 Pro noise debacle, I hope iPad Pro gets a full resolution video output and puts SCE out of business.

Can you tell more about that noise issue, is that a common thing?

My wife has a Pro for a while now and it’s pretty quiet.

The launch PS4 Pro had a loud fan in the power supply. This was replaced shortly after with revised hardware and a lower watt PSU.

It wasn’t all that loud to begin with in the first place. The XBox 360’s disc drive was louder, as was the external HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360.

I wished the iPad could airplay / mirror games to a widescreen tv in 16:9 format (kinda like the way you out video content).

No. Gamers use consoles or PCs and the companies making AAA games know that. If I want to play console-quality games on a mobile device, my Switch is much better for that. Even though my iPad Pro is most likely more powerful and has a much better screen, gaming on my Switch is a much better experience.

iPads are great general purpose devices but they suck at gaming.

Only thing iPads are missing are great console quality games. There are only a handful out there. I’m seriously enjoying Dead Cells on the iPad with a controller more than I did on the Switch. But the AppStore has more trash games than quality games. Hopefully this will change soon. Mfi controller’s didn’t do it, but maybe with iOS 13 supporting console controllers devs will port over some more AAA games.

It's very common, but there is a lot of confusion because some people are more noise tolerant, haven't played heavy games or are lucky to have a well-assembled console with good parts. My console was jet engine noisy in God of War (in the map screen of all places), then I changed the thermal paste and it became quieter but still not acceptable. Playing with other people in the apartment or a sleeping baby in the next room is impossible.

Then there is the performance issue. Many recent games on PS4 Pro occasionally run at 20 fps, including first-party God of War. Sony shouldn't certify those in the first place. It's a disgrace. Meanwhile the iPad Pro is dead quiet and very fast.

Oh and the PS4 Pro runs the fans at full speed in the dashboard when the YouTube app "idles" in the background. Speaking of the dashboard, it's another embarrassment. Choppy animation and a 2" delay when showing the TV section apps. Ridiculous.

A controller without any rumbling functionality is not up to today’s console standards for me. The best one is the Nimbus controller and even that one doesn’t have the feature. Still a long way to go. Maybe Apple Arcade is a step on the right direction.

Rumble is the least important thing in a controller. It serves no purpose in a game other than just being there. Anyway you can use a PS4 or X1 controller with iOS 13 now. However the lack of games worth playing is the big problem with the AppStore. Maybe it will change now but I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

It does matter a lot to me. It adds another layer of experience to games. I don’t need another console’s controller, that’s just a sign that the platform isn’t fully ready at this time. The Nimbus is good enough apart from rumbling.
You are right of course in that the lack of software is the real issues. I am not terribly optimistic at this time.

Nah, it's really useful in FPS games, for example, whereby rumble indicates if you have been hit, if you're low on health, etc. Really handy if there are a lot of things going on and knowing if you're being hit or not and by how much.

2 games that are full ports of pc or console games that I can think of are:
Civilization 6
Grid Autosport

So definitely possible, but studios will need to decide if the outlay of porting is worth it or not

Civ 6 is a great example. I prefer playing it on my iPad, not my laptop or desktop.

“Debacle” is the word we use for fan noise? Lol, ok.
Also, PS4 Pro is still much more capable in terms of games, and the Sony catalogue is great.
Finally, iPad Pro costs twice as a PS4 Pro, so, not really a good comparison.

With that said, I do hope iPad gets more good games.

Good point. I doubt there would be enough gamers on the latest versions of iPad Pro alone to make developers interested. The games need to find as many players as possible in order to make financial sense for them.

What kills me are the people who complain about “cash grabs” in mobile game and then turn around and defend games like Elder Scrolls Online, which is basically a Barbie dress-up shopping mall.

Why not GTA V? It could easily run on todays iPhones and iPads.

The noise prevents me from using the console. The product is unusable. It's sad and ridiculous, not funny.

I don't know how widespread the issue is but our PS4 was loud enough that even explosions while watching a Blu-ray movie couldn't completely drown out the noise. I think some of them had loose screws.

We upgraded it to SSD and it seems quieter now. Haven't tested Blu-ray playback yet, though.

They need to use the customizable controls of pubg as a model, they work pretty good for a touch screen.

Unfortunately I doubt it. It’s been tried (Bioshock) with mixed results. From a game/functionality standpoint, it was okay. The graphics weren’t as good as the console version and the controls were awkward.

The developer didn’t keep it current as the OS and hardware improved, so that was a waste of $10.

Honestly, I don’t think I would buy another game of that type on iOS.

I think it’s already here. One can play PubG and fortnight flawlessly, old sega games, even GTA is great on iPad. With iPadOS you can connect both console controllers and play. I’m currently replying the GTA series that are ported on the 12.9 pro and graphics are buttery smooth.

Not anymore it’s not. Since Sony and Microsoft are sticking to essentially custom PC hardware games are backwards compatible. So your gaming library will last much much longer.

That would be nice for sure. Let me go and try some ps3 games on my PS4 then to see if I get those up and running. 🙂
