Lightning headphone are better than a normal 3.5 jack. With the upcoming Bluetooth 5 and future W2 chip from apple wireless is the way to go,maybe not for old people

Okay, if you aren't saying headphone jack and Bluetooth can coexist, then what are you saying by bringing up "false dilemma"?

I am saying a headphone jack and bluetooth can coexist - obviously - because - unlike your false dilemma (that they can't) or your straw man argument of floppy disks - the jack is technically superior to bluetooth and functionally better than proprietary nonsense.

I'm not pushing my choice on everyone else.

Of course you are - you're sitting here endlessly trying to promote wireless to the exclusion of the standard audio jack -enough to make anyone think you're being paid to by Apple at this point.

Nope. Completely false. http://mashable.com/2016/09/07/iphone-headphone-jack-courage/#byw7gqbG2iqy

I don't think I said they can't coexist. Obviously they have for quite a while. I'm saying that as more and more people discover Bluetooth audio, less and less people would use the headphone jack, until it becomes pointless to include headphone jacks in mobile devices, because so few people will use it.

And no, it's not proprietary, because anyone can use Bluetooth.

Lightning headphone are better than a normal 3.5 jack!! Tested on same amount of money. With jack you are limited! Only non-professionals says otherwise and talks about without testing

Is it me or has apple really complicated wired connectivity now

Lightning headphones
USB-c MacBook which fits thunderbolt 3 accessories but doesn't support them or HDMI2 (via USB to HDMI) for 4K at 60Hz
MacBook pros with mini display port style thunderbolt 2 which does support 4K at 60Hz but not on the built in HDMI port which is also not HDMI2 (no adapter required)
USB-A to lightning
USB-C to lightning
USB-C to USB-C
Lightning to 3.5mm
3.5mm to Toslink adapters for MacBook Pro digital audio
Lightning to HDMI
Lightning to VGA
New Apple Mac keyboard and mouse which charge using lightning even though macs don't have lightning ports and can't use your existing USB-A to lightning port to charge a Magic Mouse from new 12" MacBook
USB-C to HDMI
USB-C to USB-A
USB-C to VGA
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI
Mini DidsplayPort to VGA
Mini DIsplayPort to full size DisplayPort
MIni DIsplayPort to DVI
DVI to HDMI
iPad Pro 12.9" that does support USB3 via lightning to USB-A and charges faster using 29W USB-C adapter that comes with 12" MacBook
iPad Pro - 9.7" that supports the same USB-a adapter but only at USB-2 speeds
AppleTV 4 only supports FastEthernet and has a remote that charges from Lightning but AppleTV itself has USB-C-port
MagSafe 2 on MacBook Pros, and still sell the non retina MacBook which uses MagSafe 1
Only one port on each iOS device and new MacBook so only one adapter at a time
Apple Watch magnetic cable with USB-A on other end
Still sell a USB-A to Ethernet adapter which is only FastEthernet
Gigabit Ethernet adapter from Apple requires thunderbolt 1/2 port so does not work on iPad pros or new MacBook
Third party USB-C to gigabitEthernet adapters which don't work on lightning port of iPad pros or MacBook Pros and don't allow you to charge new MacBook simultaneously
Apple Pencil which charges form lightning port but not USB-C
and now the smart connector for keyboards except the mac ones...

I think apple should just agree on USB-C for everything and put multiple USB-C ports on MacBooks and iPad Pros !

I cannot hear difference with lightning and regular apple earbuds. I do notice that some headphones become scratchy when twisting headphon plug in jack and some can fail. Lightning is not immune from failure though and doesn't stand up to abuse - don't know how many charging cables my kids destroyed.

Well, which part of the cable didn't stand up to the abuse? The Lightning connector itself, or the plug housing, or the cable itself, fraying at the plug connection, or otherwise splitting? And were they Apple cables or third part? I personally have never had a single problem with any Lightning cables, though I do mostly use third party cables. And I've had plenty of failed 3.5mm cables and headphones as well.

In any event, Apple has definitely reinforced the Lightning connector as evidenced from the teardowns. But I have to say, the adapter seems quite flimsy to me. I'm hoping to see better quality accessories from third parties with better DACs and amps as well. I would never buy a set of headphones without a detachable cable either.

.

Pretty much all aspects of lightning connector I have seen fail. The most common is the wire bends and stresses near the connector and eventually breaks inside and fails.

Please stop playing dumb (I'm assuming). The lightning connector (replacing the headphone jack) is proprietary - OBVIOUSLY.

Wired connections aren't going anywhere because as has been mentioned many - many - times already, it is a better connection and costs less than bluetooth. There is no motivation other than making money off new headphone sales to justify the removal of the audio jack - the only people that think otherwise are fan boys that want to force their myopic tastes on everyone else.

Because there is none. Some people in this thread just refuse to believe santa isn't real. http://mashable.com/2016/09/07/iphone-headphone-jack-courage/#byw7gqbG2iqy

Obviously we disagree on this point [wired connections aren't going anywhere], and we aren't going to convince each other otherwise. We'll have to wait and see which one of us is right.

As of right now I'm correct and you are simply speculating. 1:0

What's the point of being correct about the state of things as it is now? Anyone can do it.

Yes what is the point of being critically minded about the state of things? Not everyone can do it - this thread has shown us that much.

That way Samsung trolls can make the case that Apple is just trying to screw the customer with proprietary headphones, so Samsung can promote the fact that they retained the headphone jack (even though they evidently can't prevent some of their phones from exploding), and draw away Apple customers looking for the higher quality and convenience they've always had for no extra cost (even if Samsung is planning to drop the Headphone jack next year too). If a customer actually tries a pair of BT 4.1 headphones, especially one with a W1 chip improving ease of use, they might actually discover they can't tell the difference between it and their old 3.5mm jack headphones -- especially if they used it on a noisy, low quality 3.5mm jack on a Samsung phone, and then wonder why they ever put up with wired headphones as long as they did.

Your cognitive dissonance is cute, I've been with Apple since 2002 and every phone maker out there is keeping the audio jack (not simply Samsung). As I said:

Thanks for giving more evidence to support that claim.
