I held the 4S and 5 in my grubby little hands and ATT and walked out with the 4S. If you can, wait. You'll kick yourself if the 5S comes early or is something more than just an 'S' update.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. Despite this, I think I'll be getting very first iPhone as soon as tomorrow. If so, I can change my signature!

And if it's not, then you've waited for nothing and you'll kick yourself harder if the 6 comes early or is something even more substantial.

That's why I don't like waiting. If I need something now, I'll buy what's current.

I came to the same conclusion. Screw waiting—life's too short! :D

I usually don't buy iPhone at release, waiting 5-6 months to check if there are design problems.
So I bought my iPhone 5 three weeks ago and I'm perfectly happy with it.

I'm a long time apple user, so I'm used to debate with users trying to bash Apple products based on paper tech specs. Fortunately the user experience isn't related to tech specs, and they can put 8-cores chipsets in their plastic droids but in my opinion the iPhone 5 ecosystem is still superior.
At the same time I don't need a 50" display on a device supposed to fit in my pocket, so I'm perfectly happy with its 4" display (4.3" may be the perfect spot for my needs).

So, if you like and you need iPhone 5, just go out and pick one.

My two cents

What I'm worried about is that the iPhone 5 being slow and outdated.

Is that even possible? The phone will always be blazing fast. If you need a phone now, I'd say go for it.

I'd make do with the 4S. As someone who's had a 3G,4G and a 5 honestly aside from a few tweaks they all work the same. Now if there's a certain feature like pano pics or wanting your battery to die every 5 hours go with the 5

Outdated is the iphone 3gs.

I lost my iPhone 5 a few weeks ago and just bought a cheap 3GS off of Craigslist to use until the 5S comes out. I was surprised because it is still a snappy little device and still functions very well.

So the 5 will still be good for a long time. Go ahead and get it if need one now.

Snappy little device? The comments I read on here describe the 4 and 4s as slow and sluggish.

Just remember to stop updating iOS after some time. My phone kept getting slower and slower with each major update, until I decided to stop doing them. Now it's still a good phone, if a bit slower than it used to be.

Buy now if the iP5 meets your needs. Only you know what works for you.

I've bought each & every new iPhone. Some were great, others not so much.

With all the Apple gear I own, I'm still waiting to see if the next model will _finally_ have a modern size display.

4.7" or greater would satisfy me as long as they maintain a standard aspect ratio like all Androids do.

If they cling to the bizarre stretched out narrow display my iPhone 5 has, I'll pass & wait till they catch up to the industry.

the aspect ratio of the iphone 5 is the same as what you find in most current android phones, 16:9. off the top of my head, only the nexus 4 is different, 5:3.

Battery life is hit or miss for the most part on the iphone 5!

Some claim its terrible, some claim its great. I'm on at&t and see around 15hrs with fairly heavy use, it's also worth noting that I'm in some pretty strong LTE areas, and alao have the use of wifi in my home and office. However I have seen my battery last up to almost 20hrs here and there depending on my usage for the day.

well, the next iPhone is just around the corner, you can wait to see whether it is worthwhile to buy iPhone 5 or the new iPhone, and i think iPhone 5 will bot be outdated in recent years.

It's still a very good cell phone.

Even if a new phone comes out in a few month, the iPhone 5 will still be one of the best phones around.

If you have had your previous device for 5.5 years, I'd say you are not like the rest of us on this board who want to upgrade with every new release!

iPhone 5 will stay current for a long time - much more so than any other smartphone because Apple will not orphan it until the hardware spec is way out of date.

The 5 is a fast and smooth running device and will keep will be considered up to date for least the next 2 or 3 years. Best of all, they hold their value so well its easy to sell even an old one.

If you want it now, I'd say go get it.

A Sony Ericsson W580i... It's 5.5 years old. I got right at the beginning of the smartphone revolution. It's why I want to get one.

I know :) Just looking around for opinions based on other's experience.

That's unfortunate. Hopefully kinks in the production cycle are ironed out by now.

I hope that was just satire. I'm guessing it's not, however :(.

Go to anandtech and read the iPhone 5 review by yourself: iPhone 5 battery life is on par or better than any comparable high end smartphone. Even if the battery amperage is significantly lower.

Snappy little device? The comments I read on here describe the 4 and 4s as slow and sluggish.

I don't use the 4 since a couple of year but I can say the 4s isn't slow or sluggish by any mean.
For sure.

----------

My two cents: wait until this year's iPhone release roadmap is revealed.

Is this a joke ?
Apple NEVER reveals any roadmap ....

Well, again I strongly suggest to check the detailed anandtech review: iPhone 5 battery life is just ok.

You should be fine with iPhone 5. It's a powerful device so, i think it will never be slow. However, if you can wait up to 3 to 4 months, then you will get new iPhone 5S. There might be something even faster.

well, i think iPhone5 won't outdate in recent years, but why not wait to the new iPhone, maybe it is better.

The iphone 5 is pretty much flawless. So its tough for the iphone 5s to be even better. Except for cpu and display I wouldn't know what more the iphone 5s can offer. Increasing display size and resolution isn't going to happen so soon after the iphone 5, I am willing to bet my entire life on that. And cpu speeds are at this stage not important anymore.

But since the iphone 5 is already 6 months old, I'd rather wait for the s4 or the htc one.

If you need a new phone now, then just get the iPhone 5. Or just wait. I think it is not point in getting the 5 when the 5S is upon us in 3 more months. But this is just my opinion.
