I was hoping to get one yesterday, but the recent announcement of T-Mobile's AWS iPhone 5 has out me on hold. I'd like to use it on WIND's network up here in Canada (great unlimited deals, despite being "only" 3G speeds). I hope the tweaked iPhones come up here in Canada, too.

Depending on how long I wait, it may make more sense for me to wait for the iPhone 5S. Although, I don't see them releasing the 5S this June unless iOS 7 is previewed relatively soon...

Tim Cook pretty much confirmed that Apple won't be releasing any new products until the fall... So it's safe to say that there won't be a new iPhone this June. It wouldn't have made sense, anyway.

Of course you will, but it won't kill you. Only you know how much it will bother you once the 5S/6 or whatever comes out. It's the name of the game.

Seeing how much of an improvement overall the iphone 5 was, you should be stuck in the honeymoon phase for a few months. Even if the new one comes out just after that, you should still be blown away at the lightness, the speed, and battery overall.

1st day you'll just look at it in awe.

given that many people still use a 3GS today its a safe bet your iphone 5 will still be kicking in two years time.

having said that, however, you need to keep in mind that the IP 5 is not even the "latest and greatest" by todays standards.

the competition today has double the RAM, double the processor cores, bigger screens as is the market tendency, better ppi resolution, better camera...

i am not trying to steer you away from apple i have an iphone too, but apple is falling behind and you might benefit from looking at other products as well if you intend to keep your phone for the long haul.

the iphone 4 is still supported now.
the android equivalent of that generation is the original galaxy s. when was that last supported?? specs is irrelevant when it comes to longevity and 'long legs' for support.

It's obvious that the next update will come in as little as a few months or even as late as this fall. I'm not really concerned about not having the latest and greatest—that's inevitable. What I'm worried about is that the iPhone 5 being slow and outdated.

Considering your experience with the 5, do you think it'll be outdated quickly? Or is it a safe bet for the next few years?

Slow? NO
The iPhone 4 is still fast on iOS 6 and has the A4 chip!
You will be fine, iOS is way too smooth and doesn't really scream for better hardware. Only the Retina display does. Buy the iPhone 5. It's an amazing device.

I'm facing the same question over the past few weeks, and my decision is to wait for the next iPhone, for several reason.

My actual phone may be shows and full of memory problems buts can continue working for a while.

I don't like to be always changing phone, so the phone just work fine after a few years, and the 5s for sure will be faster than 5 at least one more iteration of iOS.

Highly probably that the price for the 5 in the present the 5s in the future would be the same.

And finally, I want to see the so call iPhone low cost, price, material and specifications and a full comparative with the 5s to do a proper selection.

I wouldn't worry about it feeling slow or outdated. I've had mine since release day and it still feels quick and fun to use. By comparison, my iPhone 4 (and other older models) seems slow and dated.

If you're ok with a newer model being release within months of you getting the iPhone 5 I say go for it. You'll be able to upgrade to the iPhone 6 when the time comes. That should be a more significant change than what's in store this year.

I disagree, the iphone 5 does not have a quadcore or 2gb ram because it doesnt need it, not bc it is old. IOS js better designed better than android, that is why it doesnt need more hardware. I also own a top android device with double the specs and it performs just as fast if not slower than the iphone 5.

the only one that can decide.

You won't regret buying an iPhone 5 now, but if you can afford to wait then you may as well just wait. My contract for my SII ran out months before the iPhone 5, but I stuck with it due to the i5 only being a "few months away" back then.

So it's up to you, but it you cannot wait you certainly will not regret it.

Think of it this way, if you get the iPhone 5 now, you can be all excited about the iPhone 6 which will probably show up right around 18 months from now, when you're eligible for an upgrade again.

Just bought my 5 this morning, setting it up now.:)

might as well wait a now for the next model. While you wouldn't be dissapointed with the 5 the next model will probably hold some new features besides iOS7 .
Hard to say what the new features will entail. Possibilities are a finger scanner, NFC , faster chip etc.

At least wait until the WWDC announcement...then you will have an idea of software updates the 5 will get, or even get news on the 5S itself!

At this stage in the iPhone 5 life, you should be able to get a better deal from your carrier than when it first came out.

I picked up my 5 two weeks ago, i figure if the next one is just an S update, i won't feel as regretful. The iPhone 5 is still a more than capable phone for the foreseeable future.

Don't let the hype of "latest and greatest" get to you, use what works for you

Just enjoy it, when the new one comes out if you think the difference is worth it then sell it and get the new one. It's not worrying about, technology constantly changes and I don't see that changing..

My Verizon upgrade was 4/30 and I got the iPhone5 the same day. It took me 2 days to love it as I've always used a Blackberry and there was a learning curve. I love the size, the screen and it works great. I have an iPad4 and rMBP and it nice to be able to sync everything. The only downside for me was finding an app to replace the password keeper that comes with the Blackberry. I'm very happy that I have the iPhone5 to use now and did not wait for the 5s or 6.

You made a HUGR mistake!!

It will be a slow, outdated, useless piece of crap in a matter of months.

You will hate yourself forever.

Forget the next few years....it's almost junk now!!

OK...enough silliness. You'll be fine, assuming you like the phone now. It's a nifty phone...stop worrying.:D

Given that Tim Cook has stated that no new products will come out until the fall, an iPhone 5 looks like a safe purchase for the next few months. Intend on getting one soon! Thanks for your advice, everyone!

I'd recommend 1Password for use on your Mac and iOS devices. It syncs wonderfully with Dropbox.

18 months?! The iPhone is still great overall but really want a larger screen. Can't wait 18 months for that possibility.

Very few apps, if any, even utilize the A6 processor. My whole family just got new 4S phones which they are very happy with. I got the 5. I'm not at all concerned, as I usually skip a generation or two anyways. Upgrading to every new release seems like overkill to me.

Besides, post jobs Apple has so far been working on a slower product release cycle.

The 5 is the biggest upgrade the iPhone has had for quite some time, so the 'S' version will have some gimmicky new 'feature' (think Siri on the 4>4S "upgrade") and that'll be it - maybe 10% faster which won't make a blind bit of difference and the possibility of a better camera, which again won't make all that much of a difference to you.

If you love Apple and want a phone, then there's nothing else to consider because you won't be missing out on much in a few months time.. I make the absolute mistake of changing iPhone's on every refresh, and I'm telling you now that I won't bother this time as I feel cheated year on year with how little difference there is from the predecessor.

I just bought a iPhone 5 today and did not have a second thought about it. It will be useful for a long time to come.
