What do you think - will Apple release iOS 5 immediately after the event? Or when the new iPhone comes to the stores?

no we will see a gold master version after the even tomorrow and than the public release will be 1-2 weeks later.

Neither. Apple will announce GM tomorrow and release it a few days before the new iPhone goes on sale. Assuming the new iPhone will be available on Oct 14, we should expect iOS 5 around Oct 10.

The Gold Master may well be distributed tomorrow, but the public release will not be until at least 7 days after that date to allow for carrier testing in case it would break their networks.

Developers will need time to test their apps against the GM seed, and Apple will want the most popular apps to be iOS 5 compatible at launch. The last thing they need is their phone lines jammed and Twitter abuzz with people complaining that none of their apps are working, so considering that the App Store approval process takes a week at the best of times, a GM release tomorrow is pretty likely. On top of that, they'll have had to send iOS 5 to be installed on the iPhone 4S/5 hardware in the factories if they want it to be available to buy at the middle of the month.

Exactly. There has to be a delay between GM and release for devs to make sure the apps are compatible. We have already seen a lot of people leaving negative "reviews" of apps because they don't work in 5 Beta. The devs needs some time for final testing and submittal to Apple before the "it's a beta" argument doesn't fly. I still bet we will have a bunch of people reviewing apps negatively because they don't work in the GM. DOn't forget that if the devs are using any ios5 APIs they cannot submit them to apple until after the GM comes out and they won't be in the app store until final release.

Please everybody... if you load the GM do not give any apps negative reviews until after the official release comes out.

Since we haven't seen the GM it is very unlikely. We may see it a couple days before the next iPhone shows up in stores, and we are very likely to get an official release date announced tomorrow.

Everyone is anticipating the new phone I'm sitting here drooling over ios5

Does anyone know if this GM will be able to run on non-devs phones like all previous GM's?

Will the assistant feature that is a part of iOS 5 be available on the iPhone 4 as well, or only on what ever the new phone coming is?

Nobody knows for sure but my 8-ball says Assistant will only run on the "new" iPhone.

I don't know, but my gut says maybe.

I sure hope we see a GM tomorrow and a public release 1-2 weeks later.

Just wishful thinking though. :)

we know for certain that there will be a GM release tomorrow, that's a given. Official release will be the Tuesday or Wednesday prior to the new device being released, which could be the 14th, but i'm thinking more likely 21st.
