Your disk is 98% full. iOS is built on top the UNIX industry standard. This means if you get your disk to almost full it will severely lag on you as the files will be heavily fragmented. I recommend buying one with more disk space or simply delete a bunch of junk.

I have it on my iPod Touch 5ht Gen., and it rarely lags and always performs when I need it to. Its my main device because I'm currently too poor to afford an iPhone, and I have no intentions to downgrade to iOS 6. I would miss the look of it and how it performs.

Haven't seen much lag on my 5th gen. It's nowhere near as fast as my nexus 4 but I'm surprised at how fluid it is given the hardware it has. I'm guessing it will have the occasional stutter with iOS 7 just as it does with iOS 6. Maybe a bit worse with 7 but it will be FAR better than the 4th gen attempting to run iOS6.

Everyone I know with an iPhone 4 cringes when they have to unlock it. With iOS 7? God help them...

Surprisingly, it isn't actually that bad. For some reason the longer you have iOS 7 installed the faster it gets. Theres room for improvement, but it isn't as bad as you'd think. Its certainly nowhere near iOS 4 on iPhone 3G bad.

I've actually got around 2Tbs of music, so that 53Gb is just a small subset.

Having just 1Gb of space left shouldn't matter regarding lag or lack of it - the space is there to be filled.

Because it's UNIX based, it sure does.

You all are wrong, this update is optimized in FULL for the iPod touch 5th gen, AND iPhone 5, both being the ONLY devices to get the FULL iOS 7, it is lagging right now due to it being a developer beta, it isn't meant to be fast yet. I expect it to speed up as beta 2 and 3 roll around.

Beta 2 is very smooth and there's almost no lag, but the OS is still very buggy.

By the time we get to the GM iOS 7 will be even smoother and almost completely bug-free. So no, it won't be a lagfest.

Someone mentioned it above, but the more free space you have on the device the faster it will run (to a point). Any slowdown in iOS can be fixed a bit by deleting unnecessary files.

I installed Beta 2 on my 5th gen today. It was really laggy at first. I restarted it, deleted some apps, and it seems to run just fine now.

I'm getting slight lag on an iPhone 5. So while maybe not a "lagfest" expect lag to be somewhat present. I can't even imagine what it'll be like on the iPhone 4.

I have iOS 7 Beta 2 on my 'testing' iPhone 4 and to be totally honest since the release of beta 2 the lag has settled down on it and runs quite well!

Interesting this thread came up. My 4th generation iPod touch recently had its battery nearly completely give out—still useful for some things when near a power source, and it's just out of warranty (should have gotten AppleCare on Amazon or eBay).

Anyhow, I just picked up a 32 GB refurb iPod touch 4th generation from Apple to replace it, but its battery life seems worse than my original 4th generation's battery life was when it was new. I started thinking about returning it and buying a 5th generation new (for about $100 more) or even the 64 GB for $365 on Amazon.

But of course Apple may update in September. Still that is a bit of a ways off given I use my iPod touch every day.

Can anyone give a battery comparison between the 4th and 5th generation iPod touch? That's one of the most important aspects for me. The ability to run iOS 7 is slightly interesting to me but not a dealbreaker or I wouldn't have bought the refurb. But spending the extra money, it would be nice if it ran iOS 7 well.

The iPod Touch 4th Gen. I had still had very good battery life when I replaced it with the 5th Gen. It seems strange that yours died so suddenly.

That said, I get very good battery life on my 5th Gen. - as good as I have ever got. It's a much more capable player hardware-wise and I don't think it's worth buying a 4th Gen. now, not unless you only want to use it for music and maybe a couple of other apps.

Thanks for the response. Not sure why my battery died so quickly; although, in my experiences with batteries, when they go, they go quickly. It still works well enough for a few things, though. I went to Best Buy to look at the 5th generation iPods in person. I thought I would have liked the blue color, but not so much in person. And the white front face was odd to me. I actually like the design of the 4th generation a lot with the chrome back compared to them. They didn't have a black one in stock, but that's probably what I would get if I got one. I'm thinking I may stick with this 4th generation refurb for now, as I may purchase an iPhone in the future and might be better to save the money for that. The tall 4" screen size was also jarring to me; although, I guess you get used to any screen.

Thanks again for the info re: the battery life.

Well, I have decided that I will bother upgrading to iOS7 even though I just use a couple of apps...but I doubt it will run well or smoothly on 512mb of RAM.

Time will tell.

Trust me,
I have a 32gb iPod touch 5 with 100+ apps 600+ songs tons of photos and I have 10gb extra storage and I have no lag. Just update, you know you want to!

Games compatibility so far? How about those AAA titles like the FF series, Bloodmasque, etc. I know it's up to the devs to update but I wanna know at its current state will most of the games work? I'm not sure if you play games on your iPod ... I hope you do *crosses fingers*.

I play Touchgrind BMX. No lag and it works.

Damn, you are going to cost me some coin.

I was hesitant to buy one because I was unsure how it would react to iOS 7. I like the OS alot since installing on my Mini yesterday and that device is too big for me to want to use the new Itunes Radio alot. Enter the Touch 5G. I am going to get one for sure now unless you tell me it isn't good with that.

I am not planning to load any labor intensive games on it anyways. Just music mostly and some browsing. No video either since I have a Mini for those other things.

Oh, and the flashlight. Cannot see using that with the Mini. :)

It seems to be fine with mine; I would say, though, that apps that tend to get bigger and more complex with time (lots of them, these days) will probably slow it down eventually.

I have an iPod Touch 5th gen/32g (about 12g free) that is not performing well with iOS7. There is noticeable jitter while scrolling. So far I don't like the update well enough to put up with that.

eta: Just restarted the device (to change font weight) and the jitter is gone. Scrolling is silky smooth again.
