I'm happy to buy the pro at $1049. And I'm even more happy to pay $49 more for a case to hide its ugliness. The only thing I wonder is how that affects the heat dissipation with the new copper-vapor system. 128 or 256GB are ok for me. I'm mostly interested in the camera and there is enough space in the ugly bump for a good camera system. This will be a very strong upgrade in any case.

Yes please, a phone with Pro in the name should start at 256GB in 2025. I think all phones should, but especially pro ones.

I could see Apple offering the iPhone 17 starting from 256GB and increasing the price, only to hide part of the tariffs in the price increase. That would be a smart way to hide the tariffs.

I think Apple should have offered base 256GB on the Pro models starting with the 15. It's way overdue.

My 15 Pro still only has 55 GB used storage. Could we just not be forced to pay for things we don't need just to get other specs exclusive to the pro?
Imagine thinking 128GB and 256GB cost difference is not negligible in 2025.
The huge price gap is there because Apple is omega greedy not because of costs increase.
Margin skyrockets once you add any upgrades and it’s even worse on MacBooks because there is the same scam with RAM upgrades.

The only question to ask is:
why make a rectangular bump and let the 3 cameras stick out,
just to lose all stability!

We were so close to having a stable phone!
Design-wise, I sympathize with the sentiment. But if you put a case on it that has a rim around the whole camera bump, it will actually be more stable than previous models.

Yeah I kinda felt it was a given that the Pro was getting 256 GB at its base this year.

It better. IIRC, The 128GB 14/15/16 pro models dont support UHD prores recording, and this was never openly disclosed you had to dig into the fine print for it.

I wonder if the minimum size of 256GB was because people were complaining about something like this:

  • Phone 14 Pro 128GB: Limited to 1080p HD resolution at 30 frames per second (fps) for ProRes video recording.
  • iPhone 14 Pro 256GB and higher: Can record ProRes video in 4K resolution at 30fps

Hey
Somebody
Make a poll:

Which iPhone 17 Pro Max you want?
( ) 256 / 512 / 1Tb
( ) Only 2Tb

Definitely many will press second, right?)

Something like that often happens, with the higher storage tier having higher transfer speeds.
Imagine you have 64 GB chips, so having 128 GB storage, you get two channel parallel access and with 256 GB storage you can get four channel parallel access to the memory and thereby doubling the data transfer rate. Since video recording is very demanding on memory transfer speeds, this is most likely the cause of that.

I just hope they won’t put slower flash in their “low tier” device because I am not really interested of going 512gb just to have adequate and responsive phone.

I wonder, did they abolish this tactic or do they still have cheaper storage on these models? For example iPhone 16 Pro with 128gb storage

That huge camera bump is a no for me. I would much rather have flush cameras or camera and less quality camera. If I want to taker serious photos then I use a real camera.
