IOS 9 multitasking works on the ipad air 2 right now. There is no forward statement to make because the current ipad 2 has more RAM and can support the feature. It is a given that this will be in the next generation ipads as well. The iphones are more of a question at this point.

Yea the iPad Air 2 has it I know because I'm using the public beta, I'm not so sure about the phones it depends if Apple wants to do that with the phones. I love the multitasking on the iPad but I do think it would be even better on a bigger iPad, this is where I think the iPad Pro comes in. As for the phones I'm not sure if it would be good to have on them, I won't say no because I could be convinced but I won't say yes because a part of me thinks it wouldn't be as good as on the ipad, even with the size of the 6 Plus I'm using.

I can't see Apple adding multitasking to the 6s and 6s Plus, if it was going to happen then i think Apple would of announced it at WWDC as one of IOS 9's features.

I know someone else already responded, and said the same thing, but they definitely would not have announced it as a feature for a phone they have not even acknowledged. Even though Apple knows we know they are working on the new iPhone, as of right now publicly, there is no such thing as any newer iPhone other than the 6 and 6+.

So, if it's coming to the iPhone 6S+, it will be announced in September when they show off the phone and it's functionality. Like I said, I hope it's coming. At the end of the day, those that think the screen is too small, and feel it would be impracticle, can simply not use it, and then we'd all win!

I used it for the better part of a full day on the G4 (same size screen as our iPhone 6+ (5.5 inch) and it was amazing.

There has been no actual confirmed proof that multitasking is limited because of necessity of 2gb. It's an assumption people are making.

It's just as probable that it is an 'artificial' limit put on the feature by Apple, and eventually once iOS 9 is jailbroken we will see that it can work with devices with 1gb.

Likewise people are assuming that Apple will implement a feature into its phones simply because they may have 2gb. This may not be the case. They may come with 2gb - but Apple may feel that multitasking much like multitouch gestures are best reserved for tablets.

They wouldn't announce it for a phone that is not out yet. Which means, to me, the 6S and 6S+ will get it, but it won't be available for the current gen 6 and 6+. Most likely due to RAM.

If that's the case then Apple should get out of the phablet market and focus on making the iPhone the best phone instead of branching it off into two phones, 1 just a blown up version of the original with a few extra additions. The point is to have a hybrid between a tablet and a phone with a screen that size. Or, make the screen a bit smaller (obviously too late for the 6S+) and focus on making the best phones possible. As of right now, the iPhone 6+ is considered a phablet, but it doesn't offer much more than what people can do on the iPhone 6. Well, besides being able to view your text message threads while reading a thread!

And yet Samsung are doing exactly the same with the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. It won't offer any thing majorly extra software experience wise over the S6e.

Sometimes the 'extra' that people want is just a bigger screen size and larger battery, not necessarily a half dozen 'Bells & Whistles' software things. Even devices LG-G4, Moto X Play, Moto X Style, Nexus 6 and all other 5.5"+ devices offer simply similar blow up experience of their standard size phones - so clearly contrary to your opinion on it, there is a high demand for such devices.

Just because LG or Samsung support split-screen there are more Android manufacturers who offer Phablet size devices without that feature. Should they all go out of business too ?

While I stand by my old claim that :apple: will render the iPhone too small for Split View, I'm quite curious. Ever noticed that reachability on the 6 Plus takes exactly half of the screen? Maybe instead of just showing the top half of an app, they can just optimise the apps, and make it a true one handed mode like Sammy are doing. And then Force Touching on the top half can bring up another app. This could work.

This is a really good point, Yes the Samsung phones do often have a lot of features, but from my past experience with the S4 most of those features were buggy and would only work with certain Samsung apps, which is what Samsung often fail to tell people in their adverts. I remember the S4 advert it made the phone sound really good, yet when I made the jump fro, my iPhone 4s it was not the case and I regretted it soon jumped back to the iPhome 5s when it came out. This is another reason why I won't buy a Note phone because although the S pen and its features look good their only certain apps that will work with the features. Personally i think the 6+ is a great device, sure it doesn't have all the features that some of these others have on them but the question is does it really need those features?
