No live wallpaper crap. It drains the battery. Keep it simple. Thank you, apple.

You're that same guy, that if apple put them on iPhone would be like, OMFG! Live Wallpapers!

There is plenty of totally unnecessary eye candy in iOS. People love it - it's a big part of what gives the overall product that elusive "polish".

You must not have understood when I called them cheesy. Let me explain it to you in greater detail so that you can avoid further confusion and not look as though you have poor reading comprehension. I do not like live wallpapers, they are no appealing to me.

Hope that helps. Feel free to PM me if you need an even more detailed explanation.

At least you just pointed out why live wallpapers are not a battery killer. They're hardly being viewed during a normal day.

They're just another nice touch, same as all the sliding panels and other useless but pretty SFX these days on all phones.

(Not all papers are only pretty. Some live wallpapers show constant status of the device or some other situation. For instance, there's one where swarms of different colored dots, that you can scatter like the fish in Koi Pond, indicate wifi and battery strength.

Heh. Koi Pond... speaking of useless, but fun apps. See, not everything has to have a rigid purpose :) )
Yeah, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 had that.

I wouldn't mind it, but the novelty would wear off quickly. Some of the people saying "no" to it are probably the same blind fanboys who thought having to change homescreen backgrounds weren't necessary and are now using it.

That Super Mario Bros 3 live wallpaper looked really cool, BTW.

Who wouldn't mind a Koi Pond or iJiggles as a wallpaper?

Here is AndWobble for Android - (me like boobies)

(similar to the iJiggles app)

iphone had live wallpapers long time ago the only thing is that you have to be jailbroken

check that video out
That's a video wallpaper in a loop. It is a video being played in the background. I had one of those with the water drops. No interaction to the wallpaper when you touch it. The app is called vWallpaper (video wallpaper).

Here is another video wallpaper I had....

iWash

^^ That blonde chick was my favorite. Looks better from a distance to fool the person you are showing it to.

Sliding panels are NOT useless and are absolutely necessary. It gives the user a sense of orientation and helps him/her build a mental hierarchy within an app.

Sure, they're helpful that way, but I disagree that they're necessary. I've written UIs with both sliding panels and not, and people had no problem with orientation either way.

For that matter, some people don't pay much attention to the various sliding paradigms, which is why Apple relies instead on the bread crumb button at the upper left.

As for live wallpapers, they're not much different than the animated "slide to unlock" on an iPhone. Is the slider's animated text glow necessary? No. Does it use a tiny bit of extra power? Sure.

And yet, who cares?! It looks cool, and adds a bit of interest to the overall experience :)

So it's understandable why Apple added the animation. It's the first thing you see when you wake it up, after all. Ditto for live wallpapers... it's just a little extra fun.

No one gives a crap about whether or not u think its cheesy. Its so retarded that someone would complain about a feature they would never use.

Bad comparison. The animated text glow uses a lot less power than a live wallpaper. It's just three words versus an entire screen that is basically playing a video. Live wallpapers are much different than the slide to unlock thing but they do both add a bit of extra fun to the overall experience. But power consumption wise, slide to unlock > live wallpaper because it uses much less power.

Now look here, troll. I know exactly what you meant. I found your "opinion" to be narrow minded, counter productive to this discussion, and, in my experience, people like you end up being the biggest hypocrites.

If all you can do is make a response asserting that I have poor reading comprehension, then you've fully proved my point (that you're an idiot) far more succinctly than I ever could- for that you have my eternal gratitude.

And the irony of your post's poor grammar and spelling mistakes was not lost on me.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

They're "cute". But drain batteries.

I imported a black picture into my photo album to use it as the wallpaper, no need for added clutter

I do still have a lock screen wallpaper though

I have the HTC Desire and have live wallpapers. They are nice and great to show off but they are by no means a necessity. I wouldn't NOT buy a phone if it didn't have live wallpapers. Likewise I didn't get into Android because I could use live wallpapers and I can think of far more important features to go into the iphone.

BTW - Who says they are a battery drain? On my battery usage they consume 1% of total battery time which is nothing.

My kids love the mario one and the soccer (where the game is going on in the background). All good fun.
