I hope so. He really is the best candidate. An engineer at heart, he fostered the Apple Silicon transition and other good hardware decisions inside Apple.

It's time we have a product person as the CEO, and not a financial suit.
it takes more than that to be a CEO of a company. For example, he might have implemented the strategy of the Apple Silicon transition, but there is no mention of what contributions he made to make that change in the first place. Apple needs someone with vision at the helm, not just execution.

“Other individuals within Apple see the prospect as "unlikely," since Fadell was a "polarizing figure" when he worked at the company. Apple passed on acquiring Fadell's smart home company Nest in 2014 because some staff did not want him to return to the company.”

Well all those employees are at Meta now so put everyone’s feelings aside and start making some decisions.

It's time for the Tim Era to be in the rear view mirror. John would be a great pick from what we've seen. But, like their new product release schedules, Apple will drag out the transition as long as possible.
No disrespect to Ternus, but I think Tony Fadell would be the better pick. He's the only former senior Apple exec that I'm aware of who's had a successful entrepreneurial track record after leaving Apple. Nest has been quite successful, and he's proven that he's a capable CEO, a consummate product person and having worked at Apple and alongside Steve Jobs, he knows and understands the culture.

Very curious who is behind this leak to the Information. Obviously they don’t want Ternus to get the job.

Ternus is 50 and has worked at Apple since 2001. He is known for being dependable and good at following orders with an obsessive attention to detail. Colleagues describe him as calm, emotionally intelligent, logical, and conservative. He purportedly took the fall for Apple's butterfly keyboard internally, which earned him respect. He also led the transition of the Mac to Apple silicon to much success. These situations are said to have helped Ternus earn Cook's trust.

I don’t get this. If he was head of hardware engineering shouldn’t he be responsible for the failure of this keyboard?

There are a lot of things from the Cook era I hope continue with the next CEO.

Cook is big in cross collaboration, which I think has been good for Apple.

We also moved beyond the “one size fits all” mentality to being more choice and customization into Apple’s product lines. When I started paying attention to Apple, the cheapest laptop from them that you’d actually want was $2000. Now we’re apparently on the cusp of a $600 MacBook with good performance.

I worry the next CEO won’t have the stones to finish the job in AR. Leadership placed a big bet on AR as a key future technology. The Vision Pro needs iteration in addition to AR glasses.

This. He was forced out because he didn’t get along with Ive. Ive is out now so it’s time to bring him back. Tim Cook has done a great job but it’s time to get a product person back in charge.
