Just left the Apple Store and walked away with a few impressions.

First, the home button is awful. Like early reviews the entire bottom vibrates with a setting of "3". Anything less and it's hard to feel.

The jet black is terrible. It honestly looks cheap and felt plastic IMO. The matte black is impressive, but a slippery monster.

Currently have an SE and was highly considering the 7 and now I'm totally content.

Playing around with my wife's JB 7 and I couldn't disagree more. the home button feels amazing, it simulates a click perfectly IMO... and the jet black is absolutely beautiful... looks and feels like a sexy high end phone.

I guess it's largely b.c I also have a MacBook and Magic Trackpad. Those truly feel like a click. The new home button feels like haptic feedback, which is something I have never liked.

I won't miss it at all. I heard the new iteration works great. It will be even better when it is eventually gone altogether. I want more space for more battery power and I want the phone to be sealed up even more for supreme water resistance. Trust me, in a few years, there won't even be a lightning port...

I'm not sure if I like the new one yet. I'm sure it will grown on me...but I'm not there yet.

Does it feel like using 3D Touch on an iPhone 6s?

Doesn't to me. 3D Touch still feels someone like a traditional haptic. To me the home button feels like nothing I've ever felt before. It literally feels like the screen is moving. Even thinking intently while pressing trying to feel that it is just haptics it still fools you.

I fully expected to hate it but in most use cases it's actually really good. Double click for multitasking is way way faster and more natural with the new button for example.

So yes, the new Taptic home "button" is ok.. Haven't really gotten used to using it yet but I just realized I will seriously miss the home button.

It is maybe because is so new but that Taptic engine does not do a good job on simulating an actual click, it's just a vibration.

It sucks bad.

Used my friends iPhone 7 Plus for an hour while he was in a meeting.

What did I learn? The Haptic button no matter which setting is just bad. I tried to like it even though I'm not buying iPhone 7, but was planning to buy iPhone 8. I've never passed, always updated to each new iPhone yearly, but iP7+ just doesn't cut it.

Hopefully next year Apple will modify this dreadful button.

With the new home button you feel the entire bottom vibrate.
Correct

And that's why it's a deal breaker.

I'm surprised Apple blew it. But not surprised fans will defend it. They side with Apple, often refusing to decide for themselves.

Wow, at first i thought i would hate the new home button most, but wow, its my new Favorite thing. Its very responsive, and actually feels like a legit click, hard to explain but its great. really is easy to learn to use, barely know i am using it now and just had the phone a few hours!

Does it respond faster now since it's digital and uses software instead of a mechanical button?
It feels like it does to me but then again I'm coming from a 6. It's not massively faster or anything but it does feel good and responsive to me. Almost addicting just hitting it haha
