Skylake Y and U won't support DDR4 (Core M is "Y"). Only the higher performance chips H and S for desktop will.

That is very disappointing. The lower power characteristics seemed ideal for the Y and U processors.

is there a chance that Apple will upgrade at once or will they wait til next year (and have some other upgrades like another usb-c instead of audiojack).
I've heard they did something simular with the iPad3 once, upgrading after only a few months.
They've upgraded after only a few months on a number of devices, and what I believe is more important is they've been prompt about releasing upgraded models when chips become available on some models. On other models they've skipped chips entirely. I believe that since Skylake is such a critical update and since many manufacturers are waiting for it to release new models that it might push Apple to update faster. On the other hand, Cannonlake isn't going to be here until 2017, and I'd be willing to bet that gets pushed back, so maybe they will wait to more evenly space the updates (doubt it).
I don't think we'll see a Skylake rMB until 2016, just because the rMB with Broadwell is not even out yet.

I think Skylake will offer improvements to the rMB line, but apple isn't about to roll out a new product line only to upgrade it in 6 months or so.
They've done it before....

I'm almost positive that LPDDR3 uses less power than DDR4.
