I'm intrigued by the 12 inch screen and the new aspect ratio. I'm looking forward to when they'll have display models out in stores so I can try how it feels in my hand. I'm not planning on getting one, however, because I don't think Windows 8.1 is mature enough as an OS. I'll wait and see how Microsoft does with Windows 9. And I doubt the keyboard cover will be as good as the MacBook Air keyboard to type on. So for that reason, it's not replacing my MBA.

I don't think I would get a Surface and use it as my main device since I my main working environment is OSX and I only use Windows 7 for games and IE required web applications which is what Parallels is for.

I wouldn't mind trying out the Surface Pro 3...

I'm tempted to buy the Retina MBA but I'll need to test it in order to justify a downgrade on screen size. As I mostly work on Photoshop, Illustrator, AfterEffects and PowerPoint; my current 15" Toshiba with Windows 8.1 gets the job done.

I'd buy the SP3 if I didn't own an iPad and was replacing my laptop tho. It really looks amazing!

Considering I usually use my Air lying in sofa or bed I don't see how I could use SP3 in same way when needing a real keyboard.

I dont see why you couldnt....and there is a keyboard on the screen if you dont have the other one attached.

The one attached is a bit flaky and not as sturdy/stable as the one found on ordinary laptops and the one on the screen takes up valuable screen space which is no good when eg writing documents.

I havent tried the new keyboard since it isnt in any stores yet. It has magnets to attach it to the device. I also dont know what possition you are in on the sofa or bed to need a sturdy keyboard. I cant type lying down, lol....and would have it flat on something if i were lying down.

Its not for everyone but im sure going to check em out when i can. Since i have to buy a keyboard, the one id get would still cost over $1200 with the tax.

How do you type on your iPad??

The Surface Pro has great hardware, but i'm not interested in it, as I don't have any desire to use it's OS. I much prefer OSX, the 1st party programs, as well as the integration I get with my tablet, and cell phone, and the keyboard and trackpad is a hundred times more enjoyable to use compared to what you get for $130 with the Surface.

I'm not convinced that the tablet/laptop hybrid niche is really worthwhile.

No OSX=no sale.

However if it's a custom built gaming PC then I wouldn't hesitate to install Windows 7 home premium.
