I don't know about all these new processors, I assumed a new processor would be out before the iMac is refreshed, and one is coming, but it's not a suitable fit for the iMac.Key word is eventually, if you are expecting anything before Sandy Bridge in 2011 you are out of your mind.
I think no one is touching the current Mac Pro because most know its like a month away from refresh. Maybe you're right, we'll see soon enough ^_^Sorry, but you are mistaking more expensive processors for better processors. No one would touch an entry level Mac Pro if it was physically possible for the iMac to have the same processor performance, much like how no one is touching the current Mac Pro.
I'm not?So then why are you arguing anything still?
We'll see what happens, the iMac isn't getting anymore expensive. The entry level Mac Pro is probably going to get a minor price bump.Again, the iMac's screen is worth $1000. You think a $200 trade-off for that screen is really going to happen? Never.
I give them plenty of time before I use them.256MB! OMG! how do they even function!! i use OSX Server + win7 + xp at times its torture...
Ahh nice, that'd be cool.im looking into a C2D 27" for a 2ndary screen to my i7/headless unit. cant find a good priced one
the MP had a price bump last time - im not so sure if they would give it another this time. people are already angry enoughWe'll see what happens, the iMac isn't getting anymore expensive. The entry level Mac Pro is probably going to get a minor price bump.
hahaha ahh. your life might be wasted awayI give them plenty of time before I use them.
thats just me dreaming - but i do need another screenAhh nice, that'd be cool.
I don't think we'll see another iMac refresh until WWDC. If the rumors reported earlier this year are true, then I think Steve Jobs will unveil a new touchscreen iMac. Just being hopeful, as I'm planning to get an iMac soon, but I would really love to see an iMac line refresh very, very soon.
Please, post your thoughts.
I wouldn't buy a touchscreen iMac myself... I was just speculating the fact that if Steve did unveil a new product, it would probably be at the WWDC keynote on June 7th, along with a refresh of the iMac line.my thoughts? no touch screen imac.![]()

You don't know that. Last year they updated a bunch of computers. Even if it's not a touchscreen iMac, (which I really don't care about in the first place), there will probably more than likely be a small spec refresh. Nothing big, such as hardware design, etc. just a refresh on internal specs.oh i understand. to be honest there wont be an iMac refresh at WWDC. (imo)
Yeaah, naww I do other stuff (like eat) while my VMs are waking upthe MP had a price bump last time - im not so sure if they would give it another this time. people are already angry enough

1) I will never give up on my hexacore iMac dreamsMythicFrost, give up on your hexacore dreams buddy. The iMac is based off of the Lynnfield microarchitecture (P55 chipset) while all future hexacores are based off the Nehalem microarchitecture (X58 chipset)
I disagree that it'll murder Mac Pro sales, but it doesn't matter since it won't be in thereOne will stay in the Mac Pro, one will stay in the iMacs. No way will Apple ever add those CPUs to the iMac, it'd murder Mac Pro sales. Apple isn't stupid enough to compete against itself.
What improvements will they make to the current iMac's processor then? Perhaps triple channel memory? What's a better CPU than the i7 860 that they can stick in there?
Really? I never knew thattripple channel memory isnt really an improvement - more of a marketing scam lol. or a flop

i hadnt thought of that! thats a great idea!!!I dont think they will go full touch screen for the Imac just yet. I can see them releasing a large track pad (like the mouse pad on the macbook) and give it touch control for the imac.
The big issue for me is finger prints. The idea of a imac is they look great when on or off. If the screen was off after some use with current tech it would look awful, smeared finger prints.
My iphone makes me cry every time I look at it an see fingerprints on it. I have ordered a Ipad and I know it will drive me mad. (I have real fingerprint OCD).
If the iMac did receive the option to upgrade to the six-core processor @ 2.93GHz (which I no longer think) and the entry level Mac Pro received the 2.66GHz six-core xeon, assuming the entry level Mac Pro doesn't get a minor price bump, and that the iMac upgrade cost would be about $700 (from the i7 @ $1999), that leaves you at $2699, which isn't much of a difference.
