I'm sorry, but I wouldn't put my question/mistake in the same category as the "I've updated but it doesn't work anymore" questions. Like I said, I am new to the jailbreaking/unlocking thing, but I've been sort of following it.And they are whining about Cydia not working.
It amazes me that just like the OP of this thread, how little reading or research people do before making really dumb mistakes !
The classics:
My phone was jailbroken and unlocked, I updated the firmware, where did my jailbreak and unlock go ?
I need to unlock so let me just upgrade the firmware again before the tools are released putting me two firmware versions ahead of an unlock tool
I just hit the Erase All Content and Settings, now my phone won't start ?

Every time Apple brought out a new software version, it seemed like the devvers had their response in the form of a jailbreak ready soon after (or sometimes even before) public release. It occurred to me the people working on the hacks didn't have a lot of trouble figuring out how to hack this new software every time. I didn't think an unlock would be much harder or take much more time to finish. I also remember reading (this was before I actually upgraded to the 4.2 GM) that the unlock was likely to be released shortly after the 4.2 release, so I figured updating wasn't going to be such a big problem. I just underestimated the time it takes those guys to finish their work, but I'm not completely stupid.
