What I wish Apple would consider is rising up to the challenge of competing with Samsung, a company that has done a great job of integrating their S Pens with their phones.

“Not doing the same” =\= “not rising to the challenge”.

Ah yes the Apple Pencil Pro for iPhone Fold, as the 5th in the lineup of nearly identical but incompatible Pencils (for no real technical reason) Apple has made just to ensure that you need to buy a new one every year.

Hot take:
Writing on a phone (even a large one) sucks.

We did writing on that form factor with the palm pilot back in the mid-late 90s. It never took off then either, despite the nerds raving about how good it was - normal people hated it.

Apple tried it with the newton. Normal people had no interest in it.

Writing on that size of device is crap. Its bad enough on an ipad mini, and still a bit cramped on an 11" ipad.

For phones, predictive text or dictation (to AI) are probably the way to go.

The main issue will be the flexible inner screen. Apple could have special tips for the Apple Pencil but I assume they would not risk someone using the wrong tip and damaging the screen

My guess is it'll be a shorter pencil, with a softer tip, or possibly not have pressure sensitivity at all as they'd be looking to avoid people pressing hard on the screen. I like the pencil for it's preciseness over the levels of sensitivity.

Everyone’s got this wrong, the leaks we’ve seen here are obviously the new A19 MacBook! So small you can hardly believe it!

P.S if this was true I’d definitely buy one!

I wonder what SoMe vertical 9:16 (vertical) videos (TikTok, Stories etc) will look like on a screen aspect such as this?
And if the compromise is ultimately a deal breaker for the many SoMe addicts among us.

Video on the left screen when unfolded while caption and comments are on the right screen maybe?

Chicken and egg. That format is popular because that’s the format of people’s phones. In an imaginary world where everyone carries a 4:3 foldable screen, SoMe videos would be 4:3. Back when phones were 4:5, Instagram popularised the square format. The question is if foldables will be strong enough to change the preferred formats again, or if SoMe formats have become strong enough to dictate the phone size.

see Sony, they created their own memory card format for PSP and ps Vita, and mini disc for music.
True, Apple doesn’t hold a candle to Sony in it’s prime, when it comes to proprietary formats. They usually failed in the long run when they stood alone, but much of what we consider universal standards now really were born out of Sony and Philips working together, and then everyone else followed.

Just don't fold it in when closing like some of us may or may not have done on our other display assemblies.

STEVE JOBS SAID NO !!!
Probably didn't want a stylus on the iPad either, but that didn't last long. While an iPhone doesn't need a stylus, it's nice to have the option to use one. And those third-party capacitive soft-tipped ones don't count as they are annoying to use.
