Yes, it's a USB device. You plug it into a Mac that lacks an IR receiver (like the MacBook, MacBook Air, or Mac Pro).

Lots of good remotes out there. I currently use an Apple Remote and it would be nice it the MBA supported it. But it does not, so I plan to use something like this... Kensington 33374 Wireless Presenter This one has a Laser pointer, you can get one for $5 cheaper w/o the laser pointer.

no no insist on using the Apple Remote i just don't how to make it work or the above suggestion would be handy..
Sure. I've done a couple of presentations off my MBA in the last few days. Any standard presentation wand (or whatever they're called) built for Windows works fine. I use a Logitech; it comes with a little USB dongle (which conveniently stores in the remote), and it works flawlessly on my MBA and MBP. It connects via RF/2.4GhZ, so no line-of-site needed. Has a laser pointer built-in, too, very handy. Here's a link.

i love the Apple Remote too but yesterday i finally decided to use the Apple app on my iPhone and it's just perfect....i downloaded both the Apple Remote app and the Keynote Remote app.
I have both of those apps. I just domt want to have to make an ad-hoc network every time I present something.
Apple needs to make the remote Bluetooth...yesterday!
