As a photographer the iPad Mini's resolution is a let down. Even when the iPad 2 was brand new the photo quality was mediocre. I'm not expecting anything better with the so called smaller but better iPad Mini screen so I won't be buying one.

I think if Steve was still around, this product wouldn’t exist. (He was staunchly opposed to a device this size.) Doesn’t it feel like a prototype that should have been unveiled with the iPad 2?

I read an article that Steve Jobs changed his mind about the 7 inch tablet market but that was towards the end of his life. I think if Steve Jobs was alive the iPad Mini would have been made but with a better screen and overall better specs.

Maybe this will give you an idea how the resolution actually looks like on the iPad mini.

All the reviews I've seen of hands on

They said the screen looks good

No complaints

So we will see

You havent look at many then. I've seen at least 3 hands-on previews wherein the person said it looked better than the iPad 2(which looks awful compared to iPad 3/FireHD/Nexus) but was still far inferior to the retina/HD screens on other devices and they wouldn't ever consider reading on a Mini. Not good.

If they want to put it their way of making the ipad mini pale in comparison to the big ipad retina screen, then I'll say my iPhone 5 looks even better than the ipad retina.

It's true to an extent but I'd take 9.7" of beauty over 4" any day.

We already know what the screen will look like, it's the exact same pixel density as the iphone 3GS and iphones before that. Personally I think that PPI is great for video, games, and general usage of the device but not good enough for reading small text. I guess I've been too spoiled by my retina screens but there's no going back.
Appart from cost I think the ipad mini also doesn't have a retina screen because of the dificulties of producing a screen with such a high resolution in a 7.9 inch format, and because the A5X or A6X which would be necessary draw way too much power for a device with a limited battery capacity because of its size.

Ever notice how new products usually don't get retina treatment until the second or third generation?

When Apple squeeze a generation or two without retina and double the profits, why not? People will buy regardless of whether it has retina or not.

So I'm really trying to decide on whether or not I want to preorder an iPad Mini tomorrow...I had a iPad 2 for a little while but ended up selling it when I got my Retina Display 15" MacBook Pro. Now that I have a macbook though, I miss having an Ipad for the little things like when I need to look up something on the internet real quick and dont want to pwer up the laptop and then power it down again. And also for trips and when I want to watch movies, etc. I really want the iPad Mini, but the only thing that worries me is the resolution on it. I've essentially been spoiled by my retina display mac and I'm not sure if I could go back to non-retina. However, since the ipad mini has the same screen as the ipad 2 but in a smaller screen, doesnt that mean the resolution will be better than the ipad 2? If there's not much of a hinderance, then i will gladly preorder one. Otherwise, do you think it'd be better to wait and save up the difference and just get an ipad 4?

Just get an iPad 3. Refurbished or Used. Cheaper or very close to the price of the mini.

Yeah I really like the size of the iPad Mini and was hoping the screen would be adequate enough. That picture above looks very good, but seeing as how most of my time would be spent on the internet with it...perhaps I should just get the iPad 4
