Apple is not a charity. There's no reason for them to lower their margins. US voters elected to pay higher prices through increased consumption taxes on imported goods. This tax cost is to be passed on to the people who voted for it.
Americans also voted for tax cuts and a lower national deficit. Thanks to the Democrats, neither is possible on a long-term basis. If Apple were paying lower corporate taxes, they'd be wiling to keep the iPhone price the same, despite the cost of tariffs. I'm not saying the Republicans are complete angels, but they seem to have a better grip on how economy works. A government cannot spend, spend, spend without increasing a deficit or raising taxes.

I can never understand why people who are buying phones that cost thousands of dollars a whine about possible increases of $50-$100. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. Go and buy a cheap data-sucking Android phone. If you want the best, pay for it. And if you voted for Trump, it's your fault anyway.
If Congress did something useful, the economy would be in better shape, and our trade deficit wouldn't be so high. Stop spending so much money on nonsense and we could lower our taxes; hence, lower prices on goods.

You’ve fallen for right wing propaganda. Every time republicans are in office they explode the deficit and trash the economy. Then Dems have to fix it.

You can try to BS us but you’re gonna get called out. The facts aren’t on your side but republicans just invent things when they’re not.

Now they won’t report job numbers because they’re dismal. That oughta speed run the dollar into the crapper.

This rhetoric is tiresome. Hundreds of millions (if not a billion+) users run the same "data-sucking" applications on their iPhones. It's not like all your data is magically private just because your device has an Apple logo on the back.

Apple accepts billions of dollars from Google every year for the right to be the default search engine on Safari across Apple devices.

Those renders have to be a smokescreen to weed out leakers. They're hideous...but will pair well with the equally hideous Apple Watch Ultra design language.
At this point of the year, with roughly a month for their presentation, all the case manufacturers already with the templates, and the cases leaked so far… all points to this being the definitive design of the iPhone 17 Pro (or iPhone 26 Pro).

That said, I find it ugly as well, you’re not alone on that. And we will see if that extra thickness means more weight in the superior part of the phone. If that’s the case, the balance could be compromised. Let’s hope that at least they use that extra space on top for useful stuff. Right now I can only think of the vapor chamber to cool it down, and the camera system. We’ll see.

You are 100% correct, but it's pointless trying to sway that kind of person. They have too much invested - mentally - in their set of beliefs and it would involve a whole lot of self-rejection to change their stance. I no longer try to sway them, but I do agree that things need to be called out, such as the TRILLIONS that are added to the deficit by tax cuts for the ultra rich, by lowering corporate taxes FAR below what they were in our real heyday as a nation, the 1970s, by ignoring this greatest shift of wealth from the poor to the rich in our history. Yeah, it's exhausting dealing with their fake facts.

I don't really care if Apple has to raise prices due to a bone-headed and moronic understanding of global economics in the government. I just scored a "renewed premium" iPhone 16 pro, with 256GB and a one year warranty on Amazon for $899. Buying new is a sucker's game. I wait until just before the newest and greatest comes out, and let someone else pay the depreciation! And I do the same with cars, too. Try it!

Didn’t Biden crash the economy after he took over for Trump? Kinda a funny coincidence that gas prices skyrocketed the day he took office, as well as inflation. If you’re gonna try to act like a tough guy, at least do it well. The Democrats have nothing other than to keep spending more money than what we have.

The point is, the cost of business would be lower if Congress did what they were supposed to do. If the cost of business were lower, Apple wouldn’t feel the need to increase the cost of the iPhone. I’m not taking sides — both are corrupt and bought out by special interest groups, which hurts everyone in the end.

End of the day you’re buying a year old device about to be discontinued, and paid too much with that in mind. 30-40% off is fair for buying used. You only got 20% off.

We could also call out the corruption… such as Social Security checks going out for people that are 150 years old, and all of the fraud with disability, unemployment, etc., that’s going on. Stupid things a corrupt organization should be able to figure out on its own.

The choice is simple…. Reduce waste and pass the savings onto businesses, and ultimately, the consumer. The more money Apple saves on the back end, the less they’ll increase the price of their products. You really think the answer is to increase the corporate tax to 90%? In this case, you’ll see layoffs, stores with 100% self checkouts, inflated prices, and even more jobs become automated. Good luck helping the lower and middle classes that way.

Yep, I agree. A used iPhone 16 Pro that’s almost a year old isn’t worth $899. I wouldn’t pay more than $500 for it.

I got more than that. It's the 256GB model, which sells on Apple right now for $1099. In addition, I get 5% credit for buying with my Prime Account. And another 2% cash back for using the Prime Card, putting it squarely where you recommend.

Not to mention, same warranty as new, it's in perfect physical condition, and has every feature I can think of, and then some. We in accord now?

Yeah I have an Amazon prime chase visa too. Most prime members do. Even with the cash back you’re only at 24% off the new $1099 price and you’re not including sales tax if applicable.

You got an ok deal. It’s not great. Nothing wrong with that. That’s most people when they buy Amazon refurbs. But yeah, it’s still last year’s news and a very old design, so you should expect heavy discounts.

Yeah would be nice to get a roll call of folks who voted that way and just have them pay for the tariffs. Not all of us voted for that… although at least 50.1% did.

Most people use a case and their phones don’t ”wabble”. It’s silly to be obsessing over such small stuff. It’s not like it’s hurting Apple’s sales. Making the case really thick would hurt sales, and creating a camera flush with the body would ruin all the progress Apple has made in photography over the years & those things would hurt Apple’s sales.
Um. How would that ruin the photography hardware ? It’d be the same shell size in that area, just more of it. The camera bump is stupid and lazy design work. Apple can do better.

Stop calling them reciprocal. They are basically calculated by taking a countries physical goods trade deficit as a percentage and dividing it in half to come up with the rates.

Many of these countries had zero tariffs on US goods.

In many cases when you add in all commerce Digital, Services etc the US had a surplus.
Yeah agreed. Toting that party line just gives it legitimacy, which it does not deserve. Whomever came up with that seems to have failed 3rd grade math, too, and doesn’t understand the definition of “reciprocal”. At least some reporting outlets put quotes around it which kinda adds a little comedic flare, like a subtle eye roll. Or maybe I’m just projecting.. 😆

Put a case on any iPhone & you’ve solved your problems. Apple has thick lenses to give us the best photos in such a small space. They are not going to just make the iPhone thicker so you can fix whatever’s going on with you. But let’s say to make the case thicker they would otherwise leave the rest of the space empty, well that will take more materials and the empty space would feel off. But it would also cost more, you ready to pay more for empty space? I’m not. OK, let’s say Apple creates a super thick iPhone filled with more battery, that’s going to cost much more, weigh a lot more and cost much more than a case, and will sell a lot less than they need. That’s why you can buy battery cases for your iPhone. Apple is never going to give you what you want. Get over it, get a case. 😮‍💨

Correct. And republicans refuse to raise taxes to pay for the spending. Both sides increase the size of government every chance they get. Dems with social programs and regulations, Reps via military and deficits. (Follow the money in that big bill.. big chunk of increase to the pentagon budget) Neither are angels, not by any measure. Neither have the backbone to do the hard work needed because it can all be undone with the next budget bill or legislation.

No one is liable, either. Sure, a senator may lose their job, but that’s not liability. Criminal liability is what is needed; something with teeth and a real bite.

Granted, the voting population deserves an equal share of the fault, too. The people don’t take their job of voting seriously enough, and vote on a whim as if all the problems could’ve been solved in the past X years (um, no, Karen, it doesn’t work that way). Not to mention, they don’t understand how government generally works either (although a lot of that is being re-written as we speak…).

Grumble grumble.. new iPhones… $50… bah.

SS has (at least) two databases. One for “all the folks” and another for “who gets checks / sending checks”. The “all the folks” database does have 150 yr old people because aunt Sally didn’t send then death certificate for uncle Jim. But uncle Jim isn’t getting a check either because of other requirements to go into the “checks” database.

Stop falling for sensationalist gimmicks designed to rile you up (like so). Apply critical thinking skills and go look it up. It something makes you angry or upset (which is good! It means you care or have interest), go look further within. Maybe… just maybe.. the other person is full of crap.

Edit: stores already have 90+% self checkout. They realized it’s cheaper and faster for them.

Giving Apple a business expense cut won’t lower their prices; it increases their margins, and shareholders (and bond holders) reward them for that. Reduction in price risks deflation, and that’s the worst possible outcome. It’s one you can barely recover from (c.f.: 1930-1934 in the US).

Why keep showing this image which is the ugliest thing in the smartphone market? LOL... just show the front or side angle. This whole image is a complete turn off...

Balanced devices is on thing I’ve long marveled over with Apple. It’s one of the things they do best in hardware. I fully expect the 17 Pro to be as well-balanced as any of their handhelds. Either way, we’ll know a lot more in a month.
