Does anyone know? I read a few very brief articles concerning the matter saying that it would happen but I've yet to come across anything official. Thoughts?

AOL Instant Messaging was demoed during the iPhone SDK launch, so it seems certain it will be available.

Even if AOL doesn't do it, someone will do it shortly.

If AOL does provide AIM for the iPhone, will it run in the background? Can I surf the web, talk on the phone, read email, and still get AIM messages?

Will it appear to work just like it does on a Mac/PC?

Apparently no one actually watched the keynote?

3rd Party Server (AIM) > Apple Push Notification Service > iPhone

WWDC 2008 Keynote Address - 57:00 in or for the lazy a youtube clip of it. AOL will most definitely provide the app. Here is a youtube clip of the AIM iPhone demo at WWDC 2008.
