Apple has so many sources hyping this phone, it doesn't matter if it disappoints some people. The cult like following will continue to serve Apple well as they gush over the latest product, proclaiming it the best ever.

Further enhanced by the superlatives sure to be attached to the iPhone by the ancient yet famous graybeard, Walt Mossberg, David Pogue and Kara, alums of the Wall Street Journal who always supported Steve, the event will be filled with Pro-Apple reviewers.

I say good for them, at least the two year procrastination period is over.

It will disappoint prior to breaking sales records and people lining up days in advance worldwide.

I've been really torn about going to Android and giving it a go (currently a T-Mobile user and will be buying my next phone outright so I can switch if I hate it but, would like to not have to do that.) I have been using iOS 8 since June (yes I am a developer) and have not been incredibly impressed with it yet. I understand the best is yet to come but, I feel like that "best" is really just catch up.

As well the new iPhones (while I know there is nothing solid to any of the leaks so far) are lack luster. Things like the One M8 with front facing speakers, or the LG G3 with its 1440p screen or even (as silly as it may be) the Samsung Note Edge... those are more innovative and seem to be pushing the envelope of technology. It almost feels like Apple is taking it safe.

TL;DR
All that to be said, I hope to be blown away tomorrow by the keynote otherwise I think my next device will be an Android... any thoughts?

If you are looking for silly gimmicks such as front facing speakers, or a side screen like the Note Edge, migth as well go ahead and buy that Android now.

The ip6's hardware will be basic, you will not be blown away unless you have not seen any of the leaked photos.

As for the software, you already have iOS 8 so you know what is new (or lack thereof)

If you are unimpressed with IOS and the iPhone and you like Android and think the Android based devices are more innovative, then there's nothing that's coming out tomorrow that's likely to be mindblowing enough to make you change your mind. I have quite a few friends that have the Note and they love it. I personally don't like Android (tried it for a year) or I would have switched ages ago.

I don't think it will disappoint. At least not for me. I'm pretty basic in my *needs*

-bigger, more vibrant and sharper screen
-longer battery life
-faster
-more space (current phone is 16 gigs)

All of those things are all but confirmed right now. Even if 16 gigs is still the entry level, this time around I'll jump to a 32, so I'm good there.

As far as design, I, like most, am not crazy about the antenna bands on the leaks, but if that's what it's gonna be, it is what it is. Everything else about the design is perfect in my opinion and is not something I'm gonna let ruin the overall experience.

I have to wait to see what other goodies will come. NFC, health app, plus all the stuff we won't know about until the actual keynote. I'm pretty excited.

The only way I'll be disappointed is if they announce the 5.5 is coming later. But that's more of me being annoyed I have to wait longer while all the happy 4.7ers walk around and not so much the quality of the phone.

Of course it will disappoint some. You can't please all the people all the time.

Some will be utterly disappointed. Some beyond excited. Just like with every iPhone.

Expectations might be too high. Smartphones are starting to mature and plateau, like video game consoles have. The PS4 and Xbox One are nowhere close to the amount of advancement in graphics and features that the Dreamcast, original Xbox, or the N64 was for their time.

If you look at Android, their phones are also maturing. The S4 and S5 were welcomed updates, but not even close to being considered game changers.

Plus, Jobs was irreplaceable. He was able to motivate his teams to a degree Tim Cook is not. Tim Cook may be a competent manager, but he's not nearly as savvy with products, designs, and ideas as Jobs was. To believe that Jobs passing won't have a detrimental impact to Apple is wishful thinking.

I expect the typical improvement in cpu, ram, screen size, screen quality, improved Siri, some iOS tweaks, thinner, lighter, improved battery life. But nothing groundbreaking, or surprising.

If i'm wrong, that would be awesome.
