will the iphone become

I have only seen one iphone in the wild so far:eek:!

Anyhoo, Im guessing ill be seeing quite a lot more from now on (especially as ill probably get one myself!). This to me doesn't seem such a bad thing though, as the more common they become, the less you stand out for having one, and as such the less you are likely to get mugged for using one:).

However, dont forget that in the uk at least, the price of the line rental for what you get is way above normal, and paying for the handset itself only reinforces this. My guess therefore is that it will attract many more people, it is afterall tempting me away from my blackberry! However paying £35 quid a month and buying the handset will put enough people off, as other nice phones are usually free and carry great line rental discounts (quite often as low as £15 a month) which im guessing will themselves prove to be too tempting to many.

I'm yet to see one in the wild, the only one's I've seen have been at Apple events or one's being bought back to the Apple Store. :)

Even if sales meet Apple's expectations, this year they will only account for 1% of the overall mobile phone market. So yes, there are going to be a lot more iPhones sold but there will be loads more other phones out there.

I suppose if you are a student or work in IT you will notice a bigger proportion of iPhone owners but I can't see many people who are happy using a £19.99 PAYG rushing out to get a 3G iPhone.

Out of my 9 period school day, I only have 2 periods that someone doesn't have an iPhone (and each period is a diff person)

I have seen about 20 iPhones in my school, could be more.

When I'm at work I see some occasionally.

In NYC, one time I was waiting to cross the street and there were 2 people next to me both with one. And I usually them anyways.

I do fear that it will get too common, but I mean it is a great phone and the more the merrier. This means more free mobile to mobile and it means that there are going to be more apps to track your friends and what not.

I talked to about 10 people that say they are going to get the new iPhone because of the price.

Do you only buy something because it makes you feel special compared to everyone else? Perhaps you need a better sense of self-esteem, rather than finding it in a gadget.

You, my friend, have just discovered the power of advertising.

The global message is: "you are not good enough as you are, and unless you have our product, you never will be". Whether it's Coke, CK Jeans, Revlon, or Apple, the message is the same.

The iPhone will become the new Nokia 5190 or Razr (the phone that EVERYONE has). I'm not worried about it. I'm buying it because its simply the best phone money can buy.

If it stays with AT&T and only AT&T, that wont be possible will it? The RAZR Was was with more carriers

Im at a black college. I knew of only 3 or 4 other people with one. AT&T is a popular carrier for many students at my school, yet there were only a couple of iPhones being used(HIGH COST). Now that the price has been lowered, I expect to see more students with them. But now that the monthly fee has gone up, we still might not see that many. We'll see. I know my comment sounds kind of RACI, but Im only speaking on what I see.

I guarantee you, if i were to go home to Tallahassee and walk Florida State's campus, Many more students will be flaunting iPhones.

That's why they're making the 16gb white iphone. So everyone who is worried about everybody else having an iphone can get the obnoxiously feminine typical apple white. That way you can be spied from miles away with the "expensive and super cool" iphone.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I just think its weird that they made the white one only available in the high end. Most people like the black way more, and it looks much classier. Wouldn't it have made more sense to make the 8GB white only and the 16GB black only!? If that was the case, I'd pay extra for the 16GB black one, but as it stands, I'll be picking up an 8GB black iPhone.

I agree. I would feel much better getting a larger size and paying the extra for black rather than be stuck with white and a dinky size.

Yes. Now the days of setting your ring tone way to loud than it needs to be and and talking overly loud to make sure everyone in the room knows what phone you have are over for you. :D

Yep I agree. However, what would make more sense to me is if they simply made black and white versions of both at the same price. Let consumers make the choice.

I'm sick of Apple making people pay more to get 'premium' colours. It's stupid.

I can't wait to get the new iPhone, and wonder how many people in my school will also have one.

You're a part of the advertising generation - brought up in an environment where you must have the latest gadget to feel adequate.

A new study has found that people become bored with their new purchase after just two weeks, and then look for the next thing to buy.

yeah, even up here in Canada they are quite common already the first gen of course...and i am willing to bet that whatever apple gives to rogers and Fido up here will be sold out in the first week...it will be so common here the "cool thing" will be to see who s got the first gen ones... the old school ones yeahhh hahaha im just kidding but yeah i think they ll be very very common doenst bother me at all tho..it just means a lot of data usage extra used in canada which will lower the prices after a while ( and with after a while i mean when a big company come sup here that can compete with the devil i mean i mean with rogers...)

yeah but it totally works... not stupid, pretty smart in their side....

I don't want the new iPhone just to feel adequate, unlike the kids in my school. I want it because I feel it is a major and necessary upgrade for me. When I bought my iPhone the day of release, I never was bored with it and never wanted another phone. Now that the iPhone 3G is coming, I'm willing to upgrade to it.

my guess is that the iPhone is going to become as common as sidekicks are for t-mobile.
at first they werent that common, but then they released the sidekick 3, and then more people had them. and now they have a few newer versions out and they are seen everywhere.

give it about a year, everyone will have an iPhone.

everyone and there grandpa have one here in thousand oaks. Literaly, every thirteen year old all the way up to 85 has an iphone now. Thankfully most are not jailbroken and all tweaked up like mine. Whew:rolleyes:

common?

i loved being the only one (out of everyone i knew) to have an iphon at launch in the UK in november. then a few of my mates got them because they had seen how brilliant mine is. But i would hate for them to become as common as ipods where everybody has one..

This seems like one of the most common things brought up in this forum. I realize that Apple's products are also fashion items--at one point I was thinking we would see Apple doing this like Swatch, product refreshes just to make new exclusive designs for people to show off, but I guess this ended with the Blue Dalmation and Flower Power iMacs. While the iPod and iMac did make some big changes in both markets, the iPhone means REALLY BIG things as far as the future of mobile devices and computing in general. Just listen to the developers speak about working with the iPhone, and that is only the beginning. I'm glad the price drop seems to be effective abroad since it will not be tied with contract price hikes in some countries because that will put this product.

Having the coolest phone on the planet does not make you cool. If you didn't feel cool until you got your iPhone I'm sorry to break it to you, but you probably aren't. What having the coolest phone on the planet does mean is that you are an early adopter of an amazing piece of technology that has started to revolutionized cell phone and software development much like how the Macintosh revolutionized personal computing.

In the early '90s I didn't feel better than my friends who were stuck using Windows (let alone those still using DOS-only systems)--it was just too bad that they didn't know the joy of using a Mac. As an iPhone owner who knows how much it kicks ass, I would think (and hope) that you would be glad every month when you see more and more people with this device.

Necessary upgrade? Yup, you're a victim...

Things that are necessary include water, food and shelter. If the 3G iPhone were necessary, it means that you could not function without it. In which case, how have you survived this long without one?

I've only ever seen one other iPhone in the wild, though i know of another person who has one, but i've not seen them since they've had it

I stopped reading the thread at your post and I have nothing to contribute other than I think the concept of this thread is one of the saddest things I have ever seen.

Anyway, the reason I stopped at your post is because your name caused me to shoot soda out of my nose (well... more like "leak" as opposed to "shoot," but you get the idea). It is funny, but for some reason, at that moment it came across as really funny.

lol...
