Besides the exclusive contract to worry about, there's also the Verizon factor to worry about. Verizon turned them down in the beginning. This was mainly due to control issues, etc. There's no way to predict if Verizon and Apple will find a compromise that allows them to partner together.so does anyone know when/if the iPhone and Verizon will pair up?
The iPhone has sold more after it got subsidized by AT&T. Even though it's not very smart, economically speaking, this country wants subsidized phones. How many people do you know buy full price, unlocked phones?I think Apple would do well selling full price, unlocked phones in various flavours.
Sorry, I meant to write that you can't put a foreign sim into the Verizon so you can use it overseas at a reasonable price.eastercat, that's not entirely true that you can not use a Verizon phone out of the USA. I just got back from Aruba. I used my Verizon Motorola V9m there. I had to call Verizon and have them activate international calling. The roaming is killer at 2 bucks a minute, but we wanted the kids to be able to call us if needed.
I think Apple selling phones without a carrier is to avoid VZW. VZW will probably never agree to WiFi. Look at the BB Storm. RIM was told 'No WiFi.

I don't like VZ because they don't use SIM cards. You'd have to go through them to get new phones and have them activate it.

The people who created yellowsn0w would say otherwise. You can't do that with an iPhone either.
I have a hard time picturing this, but I'm willing to give Verizon the benefit of a doubt.Apple has proven they have the device everyone is chasing so I think VZW would bend over backwards to get Apple to bring the iPhone over.
However, even if you ignore that, there are legal, unlocked iPhones (in other countries) that can accept a foreign sim.
Aren't those "unlocked" phones (from France, for example) only unlocked for the country they're sold in?
Or had something changed with that ?
The 2012 thing is just everyone's guess. However, it will be after 2012 that Verizon drops CDMA and moves on to another platform.
No, unlocked iphones would work with any sim from any country.
