^^ And I hope they stay with AT&T exclusively. I'm actually happier with AT&T more than I was with Verizon.

AT&T has exclusivity through 2010.

That's not true. There have never been any confirmed reports of exactly when the exclusivity expires. Some people guess that it is 2010, but that's only speculation. Also, I have heard rumors that Verizon could possibly buy out the exclusivity agreement from AT&T before then. So basically, no one knows!

I'm on Verizon also, but I really want an iPhone. If I don't hear any substantial information about Verizon getting it, I will be switching to AT&T to get the new iPhone when it comes out.

Light at the End of the Tunnel : iPhone on Verizon Networks

I read up a little bit more on the sim card that is inside of the Blackberry Storm. It appears that it is not for use with Verizon's network and is merely for support for people in the UK to use the phone on Vodafone (Verizon's parent company, which is GSM). However, after finding this disappointing news that demolished any chance of having on iPhone on Verizon's network comes some hope:
http://tech.blorge.com/Structure: ...ndard-by-2013/

At the above website it states that by 2013, Verizon will have ditched CDMA for GSM for a 4G LTE network. This could also explain why Verizon went through the trouble of including a SIM card on all blackberry storms and not just the ones sold in the UK for Vodafone. This is because Verizon may be adding future support for these phones on their 4G GSM network in 2013, which to be honest folks, isn't all that far away, since it will be fully completed within the next 3 to 4 years, we may start to see it sprout up in major areas within the next 1-2 years.

But even though a future iPhone COULD go to verizon, I don't really think Verizon really wants to comply with apple for an iPhone, if they did it would be on their terms. They already have the verizon store which the appstore would replace, and I am sure they wouldn't want Apple to take all of their revenue from Verizon for purchases that they could offer via verizon's store. Also, I don't think apple would want to let Verizon have exclusive control and allow the to prohibit the appstore. So this means that even though it is potentially possible for the iPhone to be on Verizon, I just don't think that both parties will be able to mutually agree upon such an idea. But don't fret yet!

The website put it best, "Even if Apple never releases the phone on Verizon’s network, a little unlocking action here and there should net you the ability to use a future version of the iPhone on an LTE carrier like Verizon."

That article is pretty wrong.

The Storm has a Quadband GSM and 2100mhz 3G radio for international use. That's why the SIM is in the Storm. It does nothing when the phone is on Verizon or another CDMA network.

We use CDMA here in NZ too, and also have a BlackBerry model with a SIM card slot. The intention is so that you can still use the phone when you roam to Australia or Europe.

The CDMA provider here took a look at moving to GSM but there's really no benefit and they've dropped the idea. I don't understand why anyone would move to GSM this late in the game (although I'm not an expert!)

The problem with allowing the iPhone to be sold by the other phone companies (Verizon, Sprint etc) is that it would be really bad for competition. Who would buy any other Smart Phone if they could get a iPhone. :)
